Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Ladouceur
Hi Alexander, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up as an only child, and I was always very anti-social and shy. Although I was shy at first, I always enjoyed connecting and making friends. I always had a knack for taking photos from my cell phone ever since I was younger. I am really capturing moments in my life after my father has done for me. I never knew I would be into photography or into any creative arts as a side hobby. I go to a lot of shows and normally I had always been taking pictures and videos of artists that I liked to see and I enjoyed sharing with people what I have done in my life. I have been trying new things out and especially since I moved out to Orlando. It is a creative force out here that has a lot of young creators aspiring to do something. I originally moved out here for school to get my degree in IT and I enjoyed staying around near a big city. It was very difficult for me at the start because I wanted a hobby that I could stick with. I always had given up every thing I picked up in my life. I tried playing guitar, piano, dj/producing; all I dropped within a couple of weeks. I bought my first camera about three years ago just as a whim and as another hobby, I thought I could do. I thought having a camera would help benefit my phone camera and I never realized how much it would change me as soon as I took my first photo. It became such an addiction. I wanted to learn more about how to get different kinds of photos. I wanted to invest in more lens, expensive gear, and equipment. I’d spend hours a day on YouTube to figure out some of the settings, some of the edits, and any advice on gear/lens. I did my first shoot at a club in Orlando, I actually never knew I wasn’t supposed to bring in my camera, but they had assumed I was one of their photographers. From that moment, people started coming up to me and asking for photos, and I had other photographers talk to me. It was having me go to a lot of after-parties, work with artists/models, connect with promoters and friends. It started having me to go out a lot more and connect me with multiple people and having it help me interact with others a lot better. I also find it interesting that I never went to art school or any photography classes in school, and almost all the photographers I met out here had gone to or had a strong inspiration.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely never a smooth road. I think it’s important for all of us to make mistakes, but it’s more important having the awareness of your mistakes and putting the effort to do better. I am happy enough that I am at the age where I am able to balance between work and play and knowing how to execute them effectively. I think for me was that I needed to schedule a lot of the shoots between work/school. The biggest advice to make it out there is by being honest.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in photography and event photography. I do some video, but it’s not as strong as my photos. I am most proud of the amount of people that I have connected with since I have been out here. I think the major thing that sets me apart from others, is that I am a very shy, outgoing person haha. I also have a strong heart for other creators and want them to grow. I like doing all kinds of shoots from parties/shows/events, portraits, nature, art, landscape, night time. There are still a lot more that I would like to do, and I still would love to work with other photographers.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the technology will have the biggest leap into any of the creative works. I think a lot of people are going to have an easier time to create but will have a harder time to get noticed. I came to that realization because it is now very easy to create and to connect, but in order to really stand out now, you have to be connected or it may end up being lucky. Don’t let that you stop your dreams/aspirations though. 😀
