Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Garzolàs.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My family is from Jamaica so as a child, I always grew up around delicious food. However, when I turned 18, I picked up a job as a server for a catering company. Little did I know just how much I would learn on the job! I learned how to bring events (parties, weddings, baby showers, brunches, etc.) to life through food! When I left that job after a few years, I went to college and became an accountant for a wonderful company. However, catering/food services still stuck with me. I missed it dearly. Being in the kitchen felt like my home and I missed it. I had so many happy memories there. Even having a wonderful new career.
After I had my son and the pandemic occurred, I had a few months to really think about what I missed and enjoyed. It seemed like the world stopped and we all had more time to redirect our priorities to our passions and creativity. I began posting recipes and tutorials on my Instagram (now known as @taylormadekitchenllc). Shortly after, people began begging me to sell them plates of food and then eventually began requesting me for their events (weddings, anniversary dinners, baby showers, brunches).
I never in a million years thought I would be impacting the lives of strangers through the flavor of my food. I’m literally connecting and making memories with new people every day through my food.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was absolutely not a smooth road and it will never be. It doesn’t get easier, but we get better! Oftentimes, even with a business plan, experience and all the works, new business owners are still learning how to crawl before we can walk. And walking before we can run. It seemed like my business expanded overnight. I can surely thank my other small business colleagues and friends for guidance and knowledge! They are my tribe. I remember telling my family “I don’t know where this is all gonna go, but I can’t stop now. I’m already in too deep, I gotta keep going.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner and chef of Taylor Made Kitchen, LLC. I offer Personal Chef and Catering Services. I travel to homes, hotels, airbnbs and entertain guests as I create and serve them meals made to perfection! I also cater events from weddings and baby showers to parties and corporate gatherings. I am most proud of the impact that I have left on the community. I love that I’m not only memorable for my flavorful food but for immaculate customer service. I care about my clients. Their day is as special to me as it is to them. In my eyes, food is the most memorable part of an event. This is what brings an experience together for guests as they gather and enjoy. The first thing I heard from previous clients when reminiscing on their event was “The food was amazing! Can we do that again?” That warms my heart.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes. My company was born in October 2020. Right in the middle of the pandemic. To thrive in the core of a pandemic is such a powerful achievement. But it was also a huge reminder to give people assurance. This was such a tough time for many. Losing loved ones, struggling with illness or loss of life employment. I know clients who lost their homes. I always assure my clients that they can trust me to bring them a peace of mind for the evening. Whether it’s a wedding, birthday party or a couple’s anniversary dinner, I’m here to ensure that they indulge in a good time with even better food. For me, this crisis highlighted that gathering together and making memories are extremely important. I can add to those amazing memories being created by bringing an even better experience to the table (literally).
