Conversations with Suzie Griffis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzie Griffis.

Suzie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Art was always in my blood. When I was a kid, I couldn’t sit still in church and my mom would give me a pen and a church bulletin paper and I would go to town drawing doodles all over it. I like to think that’s where it all started. Since then, experimenting with acrylic and oil paint colors became a form of therapy that eventually blossomed into a rewarding business. Over the years, I’ve taken on a variety of custom requests that expanded my skill set. Through art shows, craft fairs, and social media; I’ve been blessed to meet all sorts of interesting people and spread my art throughout not only Central Florida but the rest of the country.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Art supplies can be expensive. I couldn’t afford canvas, so I started painting on whatever I could find. Old dresser drawers, wood cabinets and other random wood pieces have all made their way into my psychedelic studio. This actually turned out to be well received by my collectors. After all, one man’s trash is another one’s treasure.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most known for my bedroom wall Octopus mural of 2019 as well as my Mushroom Babe Collection of 2021. I specialize in vibrant colors and fun concepts. I am most proud of my Mushroom Babe Pride Month 2021 Rainbow Set. I am a big supporter of the LGBTQ community and love that I could tie that into my work.

I feel that my niche is imperfection. My work is not perfectly symmetrical yet stunning. I enjoy creating pieces for others that they can relate to and cherish.

What’s next?
My next adventure for Sourflower Art Company will be diving into clothing. I would love to see my work on bellbottoms and purses in particular.
