Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Greene.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my acting journey at the age of 19 in Winston Salem, NC. I caught the bug as a background actor on the set of an NCSA (North Carolina School of the Arts) graduate film. From there, I began training and learning the craft so that I could become one of the greatest storytellers in this industry. Over a decade later this has lead me into Directing, Producing and Coaching Actors.
Then came the genesis of THE LOAA (The Life of an Actor Organization). I wanted to have something similar to a Boys and Girls club but specifically for the Dramatic Arts. So many people want to become Actors, but they do not understand what it truly means to Live the LIFE of an Actor. That is where we come in.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When pursuing any passion or career, there will always be obstacles. For me there were, and in some ways still are, many things that present themselves and cause a challenge. Racism, Colorism, my age, my physical make up, even where I reside! These are all things that I have to battle every time I audition or request a meeting with a Director or Producer.
In regards to being an Acting Coach, the struggle is always working with those actors who are in it more for the shine instead of the work. I don’t train celebs, never have and never will! I train storytellers and those looking to impact their community and quite possibly the world with their gift.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my career as an Actor and still am one to this day. Lot of folks recognize my work from various TV shows and Films that I have done over the years and that is a great feeling. I also Coach Actors on the craft through my organization THE LOAA. I began coaching actors almost a decade ago and I love working with my fellow artists and creatives looking to find their voice on the stage or Big and Small screens.
I am most proud of my performances that had an effect on those people identifying with my character. To tell someone’s story and have them feel as though there is a better way out or that they are seen and understood is one of the greatest things an Actor can achieve in my opinion. In regards to my Coaching, my proudest moments are when my students book a job or have a breakthrough in their work!
What sets me apart from other Actors is my work ethic and drive to achieve my goals. There are always times where we feel like giving up, but when I sit back and think about what that truly looks like for me, it makes me work even harder.
What sets THE LOAA apart from other acting institutions is that you are learning real-world techniques from someone with 20 active years in the business. You also get access to other industry professionals doing work in the industry at a high level via workshops and Q&A Talkbacks.
Any big plans?
Just to grow as a human being and learn as much as I can while giving back as much as I can with the time I have on this earth.
For THE LOAA, I hope to expand the organization into several markets while making our home base here in Orlando a place where we eventually have a large enough space to set up a mini studio and blackbox theatre for those looking to pursue the arts!
