Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Lee.
Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I became a mom, six years ago this week actually! I got some maternity photos taken and remembered thinking “what a fun job!” My daughter was soon born and we had some photos done again, but this time I was much more picky because it was her, and thought “Why not try and capture her myself and really grasp her little features and tiny personality.” I started with a simple kit camera from a Black Friday special, using handmade props and set ups, and was taking monthly photos that quickly caught my friend’s and families attention. Within about three months, I was getting strangers messages on social media asking if I could take photos of their families and children. I would explain it was a hobby and not professional, but so many local moms were interested and supportive, really wanting me to capture their babies like I did my own. Fast forward five years and I’ve now photographed over 5,000 mini and full sessions, over 100 weddings, and now have three beautiful little girls as my number one clients!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was 20 years old when I had my first daughter – I am now 26 and a mother of three! I have always wanted to be a mom and now being a full-time photographer, I can’t imagine ever doing anything else. But being a full-time mom & business owner has its challenges. Delegating time between family and work is tricky when you’re your own boss. I wouldn’t trade it for the world though!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for being a Jack of all trades, but I feel that family & children photography are my most common for sure! I do proposals, engagements, weddings, maternity, families, children, couples, headshots, events, you name it, I’m there.
I have most frequently heard what sets me apart is my interaction with children I photograph, which I credit to being a mom of three under six. I always want to capture my subjects as naturally and comfortably as possible! I feel so proud when I look at my work and can genuinely feel the energy I capture.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along the way is to be myself. Not worrying about what anyone else is doing, not worrying about anyone else’s progress but my own, and doing my very best at everything I do really makes all the difference.
