Exploring Life & Business with Joshuwa Walker of I’ma Fix It

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshuwa Walker.

Hi Joshuwa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, my father was my hero. He worked in construction and there was nothing he couldn’t fix: cars, houses, you name it, he was the guy. I aspired to be like him and like most children, I was a sponge and absorbed everything I could from watching him. I’ve always had this innate ability of working with my hands as well as a passion and joy doing it. When I returned home from active duty in 2010, I began to develop my love for carpentry as a way to transition to civilian life. My first business venture with carpentry went hand in hand with my love for gardening where I would custom build raised garden beds, chicken coops, and composting bins. What I quickly learned was that not every passion should be turned into a business and so I had to put my passion on the back burner and go back to the drawing board.

After earning my Bachelors in Business in 2013, I felt ready to conquer the world again and began my journey in the corporate world. Like most veterans, I found it difficult finding purpose and my new identity in corporate America. As a result, I found myself bouncing from desk job to desk job trying to understand this new 9-5 culture that bluntly wasn’t for me. As a way to escape the realities of what I was facing, I continued my carpentry passion by remodeling homes on the side. After all the blood, sweat, and tears poured into my degree, it only made sense actually putting it to use and it was then that I decided to do real estate in 2018. After dabbing into residential real estate, I found more purpose in working for the government again as a project manager of real estate transactions for federal agencies. It was in this role that I knew as much as I enjoyed the business aspect of real estate, I knew God was calling for me to get back to doing what I love. It was going to require crazy faith for this next level that God was calling me to which also meant leaving everything that felt secure and stable behind and hoping for something beyond my imagination. I firmly believe it is never too late to reinvent yourself and in 2020 I’MA FIX IT was born.
