Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Giboney.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband worked for a number of years as a healthcare contractor. We moved frequently and it was hard to nail down friendships. I started on social media as a way to make connections with people who had similar interests.
That was 7 years ago. During the shutdown, I realized not only could I make connections but I could help people by sharing what I was doing, going through, or even wearing. I could provide value and I tapped into the joy of creating.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. There have been so many times I wanted to throw in the towel. Being creative on social media you often feel like you’re a dime a dozen.
It can put you in a really bad cycle of comparison. I went through a really toxic period of feeling like I wasn’t creating enough or in the same way as other people and that really got me down.
When I get these feelings I remind myself that social media is a digital magazine. Perfectly crafted stills but not a perfect life and I don’t have to be perfect either.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m truly a lifestyle creator. While my content is primarily theme park and fashion-oriented, I aspire to be real and relatable.
I create content that is true to who I am. A mother of a toddler. An amateur baker. An animal lover. A real person who struggles with insomnia, OCD, anxiety, and endometriosis.
I’m proud of my willingness to tackle real subjects. I’m self-proclaimed “extra” but life can’t always be magical. By sharing my infertility and mental health struggles I can remind people that they aren’t alone. We all go through difficult times and we are all strong enough to overcome.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Above all else I’m relatable. It’s so important for me to be authentic. I rarely share solely because a topic is trendy. I don’t share products, ideas, or tips I don’t truly believe in.
I’m so proud of creating an online environment where I and others can be their authentic real selves.
The person I am online is the person I am in real life and I am so proud of that.
