Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Beach.
Hi Tyler, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out playing piano when I was 6 or 7. I was young and got bored and didn’t pick up an instrument until middle school when I started to drum. I did percussion all through middle school and high school. Drumline my junior and senior year of high school was when I started writing music for first time. My senior year of high school I started learning the very basics of audio engineering and loved it. I ended up skipping most of my classes to either get better at drumming or engineering.
I used my graduation money to buy a bunch of basic recording gear and started hitting up everyone I knew who played music. I started college 2 weeks after graduating high school for audio engineering and picked up my first internship about 6 months in. In school I freelanced full time and interned whenever I was free. Every Sunday I’d get the studio to myself and would record everyone I thought was talented for free.
After school I moved up to Atlanta and started interning out of Akon’s studio. I was pretty young and arrogant at the time and didn’t stay there for too long. I moved to Nashville for a job touring only to be let go with a list of other people about 6 months in. That company was sold and I moved back to Orlando to open a studio with the people I very first interned with.
The studio we started quickly fell apart as the main owner started getting into some bad things and quickly tanked the business. From there I left and started helping a studio in downtown Orlando. After a few years, I decided to leave the studio world and just engineer on my own and it’s the happiest I’ve been.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
None of it has been easy. Every step along the way has had some sort of setback or obstacle. I’ve debated leaving music many many times along the way but we’re coming up on 10 years and I’m still working at it
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I record, mix, and produce music.
Most of my work comes from mixing music, taking the files an artist sends and making them sound finished, professional, and just all-around good.
Recently I’ve started producing for artists. I have a lot of very talented friends who are much better at making the actual beats or instrumentals so I more so focus on finding artists I believe in and connecting them with the right people to bring their music to life
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
You can’t do this alone. We all think we can but we can’t. I wouldn’t be where I am now without a long list of people.
Surround yourself with talented people with the same goals and mindset as you. If one of you make it, you all make it.
