Rising Stars: Meet Alexander Mierisch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Mierisch.

Hi Alexander, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making movies as a teenager when my family was stationed in Japan. It started off as a hobby but it suddenly hit me that I love making movies and really anything that has to do with the process behind the camera! Shortly after high school, I attended UCF and graduated with a degree in film.

Ever since then, I’ve been working on personal film projects, shooting music videos and other miscellaneous videos for clients, helping out on set with other people’s films, and whatever else I get the luxury of filming! As of today, I’m currently working on a documentary about a mural artist, my biggest project to date!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth sailing. Filmmaking in general is a hard business to make money in if you want to direct films as I do, so the job offers didn’t come flowing in after college.

Finding money for a personal project or new equipment can be quite a challenge especially since they can be both be expensive, so I try to take any jobs I can and make them the best they can be for my clients!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a director/writer and I do videography jobs for music videos, school functions, weddings. Basically, anything that needs filming, I’ll do it. I specialize in shooting videos and ensuring the shots come out right to give the client the extra bit of pizazz everyone wants in their videos.

I’m really known for the short films and music videos I’ve shot for clients. I would say, I’m most proud of a training video I shot for a high school football team and this documentary I’m currently working on for my brother.

I’ve never undertaken a task like this before and while I get moments of doubt, just knowing how the end product will turn out along with making my brother proud is what makes it so exciting.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Skateboarding with my friends in Japan while we would snack on the spicy chicken from the local “Family Mart” nearby.
