Daily Inspiration: Meet Barca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barca.

Hi Barca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I first got into music because of my father. He’s a musician and plays the harp. Growing up, I would always be around hearing and seeing him make music, so I feel like that is where I first got introduced to music. As I got older, I started to gain more interest in it and was always eager to learn how to play instruments.

It was when I went to a live concert that I fell in love with the culture of electronic music. The way people were dancing and having the time of their life made me more interested in music. Artists like The Martinez Brothers, Marco Carola, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams really influenced me to become the artist I am today. I would watch videos of them all day just imagining myself as them. I studied how they performed and the way they carried themselves.

It was about 7 months ago that I finally decided to start mixing and practicing how to be a DJ. My best friends are producers and artists, so everything started feeling like it was the right thing for me. I saw the love and creativity they were putting into their craft and it inspired me to do my own thing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At first, it was a long and difficult process because I had no one to teach me. I just went with what sounded good to me and learned from watching my idols’ sets on my computer. But I kept practicing and it started to naturally grow on me. I would be in my studio every day mixing and trying to get better.

It got to a point where I felt like others had to hear it and see me play. It started getting boring just being by myself. When I felt like I was ready to perform in front of people, I began posting videos on my Instagram so others could hear and see. When I saw the love and support I was getting, it made me motivated to keep going. Time went on and I felt ready to perform at clubs, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to get that opportunity.

Thank God for the people that gave me that chance. I will forever be thankful to anyone that believed in me. Now I’m performing at clubs and it feels amazing because it’s something I’ve been wanting to do. Since then, everything has been feeling natural and flowing smoothly for me.

It’s like a sign from God that this is what is meant for me. It’s what I’m destined to do. I thank God every day for it because it changed my life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an electronic music DJ and producer. I specialize in house music. I’m known for being a DJ that wants to give joy and make people feel good when they listen to my music. I love seeing people dance when I’m performing.

The type of music I play sounds different and unique from what I’m used to hearing around here. I’m most proud of how everything is going. I don’t think there’s one specific thing I’m most proud of. I’m happy with everything and feel blessed this has become my life.

I can’t wait for what’s to come in the future and am excited to release my own music this year. I’m ready to take things to a new level.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how the city has grown so much since I’ve moved here. I see more businesses around, which means people are getting more opportunities to work. This city has given me all the resources to be great and I’m thankful for that. What I like least about the city is certain places can be overcrowded.
