Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla S. Lemus.
Karla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In truth, I never imagined dedicating myself to pastry since it was not my passion at that time and I considered that I was not very good.
I studied for four years at culinary school, where they taught me a basic knowledge of pastry, baking, and decorating, but that was close to 15 years ago; all this started because I liked to make my children’s birthday cakes. Then those of my immediate family, that’s when I realized that I liked pastry, and every time, I wanted to learn more things and set myself more challenges.
I started watching learning videos on YouTube and Pinterest until I began to see that everything, I set out to do could be achieved and liked. That’s when they encouraged me to do it for sale; without fear, I did it. I tried; I knew that I could do it with the help and support of my family.
I started with only one baking pan, a few pastry utensils, and an old mixer. After 2 to 3 years, I can say that I have plenty of baking stuff, including a much better mixer, my edible printer, many cookies cutters in different shapes, sizes, and more.
Since I started my small pastry business, I’m feeling more confident, and I feel safer about everything I do; all this has been possible with the help and support of my family, especially my loving husband, Ricardo he is my fan number one, the time and practice have helped me to improve my decoration techniques and my baking skills.
I love to learn new things and try different techniques. One of the best things that I enjoy is baking and decorating with my two kids, and the best part is eating their creations.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The pandemic has affected all small and large businesses, but also the existence of competition from other people who do the same thing and, as in everything, there are their high and low seasons.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I dedicate myself to making cakes for all occasions, pastries, pies, and much more. I like decorating cakes, I love baking for people with special dietary restrictions and also I’m allergy-friendly and Vegan.
I specialize more in tres leches cakes since they are the best sellers because they are delicious, they are not very dry but they are not very moist either, their composition is perfect, that is why the three kinds of milk or tres leches that I prepare are the best, I am very proud to have the beautiful family that I have, which are the daily support they are the ones that drive me to be better day by day, it makes me very proud to see how I have grown from the first cake until now.
I am even more proud to see every positive comment and photo that the customer sends me and post a comment on my social media and what makes me different from others is that I do everything with love for fun and self-satisfaction, it is not only to receive remuneration but I do it with love, I like to transmit my emotions and feelings through each creation and I always say that my secret is a dash of love in every baking.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would just like to tell you that nothing is impossible there will always be difficulties along the way but with good support, you can get ahead don’t be afraid and you have to dare to do things, always look forward if at any time you feel you can’t don’t worry you can do that and much more never stop trying the world is full of opportunities.
