Today we’d like to introduce you to Yamilex Rivera.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My entrepreneurship started young, It began one day when my uncle gave me a box of candies from his company to sell down our neighborhood. It sparked an interest in me that I didn’t quite understand. For many years, I wanted to be a doctor then I realized my passion was fueled by wanting to help people while also believing that a career would be the only true stability. One day I got a teacher to pay me for creating some poster boards for his recycling group. The same teacher I had explained I had a project due that was also a contest. It was a contest to meet someone in the hospitality and tourism industry, could be anyone hotel manager, etc.. he surprisedly knew Harris Rosen. At the time I didn’t realize who this man was I was 16 just excited to get an opportunity to have something for my project. I then got the chance to interview Harris Rosen. He founded Rosen Hotels & Resorts in 1974. He’s also Florida’s largest independent hotelier. He has seen my hunger and motivated me to just keep going, I appreciated how humble he was.
Randomly on a ride home, I saw a piece of mail with my name on it in my mom’s car. Already opened, I asked my mom what was inside? Her response was “something she wishes I hadn’t seen” jokingly she knew I’d be highly motivated to try out this new school. Workforce academy then became my home. This school almost felt like a gold mine. Only because the family setting and education structure allowed me freedoms I didn’t feel I had at a public school. I was allowed to learn things like marketing, e-commerce, taxes as electives and part of the schooling foundation. They encouraged college and even got me an amazing job at DSK LAW Firm. Where I was able to get a story written in the school article with a photo taken of me and the Firm president. Firm president Hugo de Beaubien stated, “Yamilex is a pleasure to work with.” At one point I was working two jobs and taking the bus, two hour bus rides became routine. I hated driving but loved being able to just do what I needed without relying on anyone. I was working at a phone store while also working at the law firm.
My tech company had A lot of potentials it was hourly+ commission. I was making a good amount and I have seen the potential to do more. Which eventually led to me quitting DSK sadly and taking on the sales job full-time and gaining the position as key holder/shift lead. at 19 I got my first leadership opportunity. It allowed me to learn that I loved training, helping and just being a part of the customer service industry.
I had some friends ask me to be in different video shoots. This excited me I loved networking, supporting the local community, and art in general. I met a couple of amazing people but the first important one was beat down. Beat down is an Orlando videographer. He has seen my work and inspired me to do a couple more videos and projects that lead to me eventually getting paid gigs . A little after I met topnotch a local photographer and orlando favorite. Definitely experienced unlike myself who was struggling to learn to get out my own head. I had a lot of moments that shaped me but meeting these two were the start of what I believe to be my elevated entrepreneurship journey. Now I’ve
Started my llc Lirio de los valley. Started my website(liriodelosvalles.info) where I can be booked for various services. Everyday is an a roller coaster. My key thing they held me together was consistency, family and a belief that even if It didn’t work out I persevered. I was never a I can’t do this person. I always want to learn and if I couldn’t do it be sure i’d figure out how. I was never afraid of asking for help. Through teaching others I learned more and more. I found my love for networking, socializing, growing my platform, and having just a bit of influence to promote others to be the best version of themselves. I’m humble but I take pride in knowing my advice/ outlook has changed the minds of some to pursue something out of what they considered “normal.”
I came from a small city in Pennsylvania called Allentown. My mother was a single mother who I watched work hard everyday to give her kids a better life. She is honestly my motivation. She always sees so much in me that I guess sometimes I forgot to take a moment and step back and allow myself to appreciate my hard work daily.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I get hired for things like helping my local Dj as an assistant doing things like weddings, sweet 15s and even corporate company events. I do some promotional work. I wear company’s shirts and clothes and get paid to support and promote. I also do commercials and advertisements. The main company I worked doing ads with was wealthionaires and studio max. I also then got some amazing partnerships I got hired as a brand ambassador at a local photography studio. I also am in transition to another leadership position where ill be inserting myself a bit more in the model industry and help other young women and men gain confidence, find their true potential and educate and learn through it to the best of my ability.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is probably the most funniest story. I was between 6-8. I decided to walk down my neighborhood and sell water. I was too young to understand structure but something in me knew this would work. I went door to door offering water from the same cup to my neighbors in the hope they would donate some change to a young girl. It worked. No one drank from my cup sadly but they all did give me some change which at the time filled up one of those double bubble containers.
