Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Frankel.
Hi Britt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my journey in the sport of Rock Climbing at the age of 12 when my Brother (and co owner in DynoClimb) John took me out to climb on a weekend trip in Wisconsin. I fell in love with the sport and continued to learn and climb (inside and outdoors) as much as I could through my teens and into my adulthood. Through those years I also worked in retail and retail management for 2 major corporations. Learning and building a strong background in service, operations, and business management.
I met an amazing young lady named Michelle and had our first date at a Rock Climbing Gym in Illinois. A year and some change later I ended up proposing to that wonderful woman at that very same climbing gym.
Through my life climbing had always kept me grounded (humble) and free at the same time. I wanted to share the passion, love, and internal growth this sport had given me with others. I just needed the right place and the right time.
Michelle was born and raised in DeLand so naturally we opted to move to where the warmth was while our family grew into three and then a family of four.
Seeing an opportunity to follow through with the dream of sharing Rock Climbing with others Michelle and I saw potential for Climbing in Central Florida and began to bring the vision of “DynoClimb” to life.
Stemming from the Dynamic movement known in climbing as a leap or jump of faith, the Dyno stood out to us as a means of connecting climbing’s most impressive move to the Dino (Dinosaurs) that seem to intrigue many.
I knew this would prove to a brand and name that would set us apart from other climbing gyms and a couple years later we had started our community of climbers in the heart of DeLand.
Family is at the heart of our community and within our Family owned business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding the right building to suit our needs, construction woes and the journey of opening a business to then have to shut down for months due to Covid mandates were some of the obstacles we have faced within our journey.
Without our community of climbers and members we wouldn’t be in the position we are now. We are very humbled that our members and patrons decided we were a vital part of the Central Florida Community ( even after just opening in Aug of 2019).
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DynoClimb?
We are an Indoor Rock Climbing and Fitness Facility.
We offer Climbing Instruction, Climbing Gear, Memberships, Session Passes, Parties, Events, Fitness, and Yoga.
We have had climbers as young as 2 and as old as 85. Within our names sake we are a Climbing Gym that try’s to be Dynamic in the needs of our Climbers (Athlete’s) and provide an experience that will challenge them, get them moving, and coming back for more.
We try to hold true to that through our slogan of “ Climb Hard, Stay Humble, and Have Fun.”
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite memory as a child was climbing big pine trees in the Midwest (Illinois) when I was 10.
The sway of the tree was scary but I remember feeling calm and collected. Feeling in a state of focused energy. Being present within each step I took and each branch that brought me further into the. Sky.
