Today we’d like to introduce you to Lívia De Carvalho.
Hi Lívia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lívia, I’m 16 years old, I’m Brazilian. I have always liked makeup, but it wasn’t something that I was passionate about. when I moved to the United States 4 years ago I met a friend, she loved makeup and she introduced me to this world. At first, I did makeup because I thought it was fun but I didn’t post anywhere. But my parents, my friends started saying that I have a lot of talent, and that I should share that with everyone. Since I was little I have always liked to make videos, but I was so scared to post something and everyone starts to make fun of me, especially at school, after a lot of convincing from my parents and friends I decided to create an
Instagram account to post my makeup looks, at first I only posted photos, because I was too embarrassed to post
videos. People were liking, but they were asking for videos, I didn’t want to, but I posted anyways, what I wasn’t expecting was that everyone would love, even the girls at my school were reposting and saying they loved it! That made me so happy, and I started posting more. The first year posting on Instagram was hard, because I posted
everyday and I was losing a lot of followers, and I didn’t understand why because I was doing everything I could to grow on that platform. I have never really thought about giving up, because I love this so much but I was thinking if was worth it to dedicate myself so much if it wasn’t happening anything, but | continued posting everyday, until one day I posted a grinch makeup look, on Christmas, and it started doing so well, I continued posting and every video that I posted was getting more than 100k views, and I was gaining a lot of followers, I was so happy because I have worked so hard for that. I remember writing on my list for my 2021 goals in January 7th saying that by the end of the year I would like to have at least 10k followers, and by January 19th, 2021, I reached that goal. It was really worth the patience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When you want to start making videos for any platform, you have to know that it won’t be easy. Not everyone is going to support you, or like what you post, and I think that, a problem that every digital creator faces is haters, and really offensive comments. When my videos were getting lots of views, a lot of people were commenting really stupid things about my appearance, that I should give up, and that I wasn’t going anywhere doing that, and the more followers you have, those comments only get worse. But I tried not to think a lot about that, and focus on my Instagram. One thing that is super importante, is the love of my followers, that is one of the things that would never let me give everything up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make makeup videos for Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, I create content and post everyday. I do a lot of makeup challenges, makeup tutorial and I’m also really good at doing artistic makeup, and this kind of makeup is a little bit harder, it has more details and also takes more time to do than “normal” makeup, but what I love the most about artistic makeup, is that you can be so creative, you can be and do whatever you want.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
One of the things that makes me happy, as you can tell, it’s makeup, I love just sit there when I stressed and do my makeup for 2 or 3 hours, it’s basically my anti-stress. But there are also other things that makes me happy, like hanging out with my friends and family, another thing that I love to do is swimming, I’m one of the captains of the swim team at my school, I started swimming when I was 10, and I didn’t know that one day I would love it so much!
