Today we’d like to introduce you to Hakar Torres.
Hi Hakar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My excitement for aviation all started back in sixth grade at Sanford Middle School with an Intro to Aeronautics class. The teacher’s name was Mr. Oliver and I clearly remember us helping him build his airplane in class. It was a Zenith kit aircraft which he brought the parts in for us to help him assemble while in class! Then after learning about how airplanes fly and taking a discovery flight myself I couldn’t stay away.
Fast forward a few years after finishing college at Everglades University with a degree in Aviation Management I started trying different jobs to see what I liked the most. It was no smooth and easy path. I remember my first opportunity at the airport was pushing wheelchairs and throwing bags for $4.86 an hour (+ tip). I took this job only because I knew it would force me to be at the airport walking around all day and I would get to interact with hundreds of people a day.
Over the course of the last 6 years, I have worked a wide range of roles with commercial airlines, cargo airlines and as well flight training companies. While working those role I on the side was building Air Market Group. I wanted to build a community in the aviation industry so I began writing blog posts on publicly traded aviation companies sharing my opinions to create conversations and meet other individuals with similar interests.
Now Air Market Group is a growing team expanding into new sectors of business aviation. Today we stand a team of 4 individuals certified flight instructors and aircraft mechanics. We are actively looking to expand our team with new aircraft brokers, insurance underwriters, interior designers and more as we look to provide our clients with a full suite of available customizable on-demand services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some bumps in the road when it comes to starting an aircraft brokerage firm and I am sure that there will be many more future challenges ahead! Personally, the engineering side of the aviation world still confuses me and its a challenge for me to understand it quickly. As a broker is important that we understand the aircraft we are either representing or looking to potentially acquire for a client. I personally always bring a mechanic with me when going to look at aircraft to have a second pair of eyes. I spend a lot of time reading more and taking classes to learn about it more although I have no problem asking for help when I do not know.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Our team encourages to use of carbon offset credits when flying to help reduce to impact aviation makes on the environment. One of our biggest opportunities right now is to continue to development in electric aircraft and the use of Sustainable Aircraft Fuels to help keep our skies “green”.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There is so much to like about Orlando. I have been able to make friends of all different walks of life. There are dozens of great restaurants that cater to my dairy allergies. I frequent at Market on South, Drunken Monkey, Ethos, Loving Hut, and Lazy Moon just to name a few.
I wish there were less potholes in the main roads. I am constantly having to dodge and swerve in my lane to prevent from blowing out a tire. Looks as if they never get repaired and when they do it just ends up being worse.
