Today we’d like to introduce you to Rony Jabour.
Hi Rony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in 1983 in Brazil. I come from a poor family in Brazil, in 2004 I moved to the USA by myself, I worked in construction for about 8 years here in USA, where I saw a lot of accidents happening, so, I decided to study Environmental health and safety to help other workers to work and return home every day to their family safely.
Since 2007 I teach OSHA Safety Training for construction workers, in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
I studied EHS at Keene State College, I earned my Master’s Certification at the Texas University of Arlington.
In 2019, I was recognized by US National Safety Council as 40 under 40 rising star in safety.
In 2021, I was recognized by Global Forum for Education and Learning as Top 100 leader in Education,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was hard, have to learn a new language, go back to school without money, be discriminated at workplace, learn new culture.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I teach Safety training for construction workers. I’m specialized in Occupational safety and health for construction.
I’m proud to earn 2 masters in Occupational safety and health from Texas University.
What sets you apart from others is the talent to speak 3 languages, have a large experience in the field also as a former construction worker and understand the needs of immigrants workers.
What’s next?
My plan is to keep helping workers to work safely and go back home every day to their families.
