Check Out Ryan O’Reilly’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan O’Reilly.

Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Tanner & I had been playing in and out of bands for years, and when we started playing as SIKE!, things just clicked in a way they hadn’t been before. We grinded with no one caring about us for over a year before we started getting local and cross Florida buzz. Every new single release seemed to equate to more people showing up at shows, and at the point of this last single we’ve been filling venues in our hometowns and having wild shows in every city we go to.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Musically…. that part has always been smooth and natural. It’s all the exterior stuff like personal struggles, being looked down on by bands with massive egos (some of whom we now play bigger shows than) and inner scene drama that have been our bumps in the road along the way. But with every bump has been fuel for songwriting, so I guess you could say even our biggest L’s have been W’s in disguise.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
SIKE! is halfway between a punk and a metal band. Our brand of heavy music pushes the envelope creatively on what’s been done before, while also sounding familiar enough that someone with more of a pop preference can enjoy. On the streets, we’re infamous for crude, low-brow humor coupled with insane live shows. I couldn’t be more proud of how distinct two people can sound while still being listenable. We’re heavy, but we have hooks. We look like punks, but we don’t look “stuck out of time” punk. This is a band that could only exist now, and the value of our music has been steadily increasing for a while as time moves forward.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
None. Hard work and determinism have been the only things moving us forward. Luck is a myth.
