Conversations with Christopher Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Diaz.

Hi Christopher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a fascination with music for as long as I could remember. Some of the earliest/haziest memories I have were of going to concerts with my parents – I distinctly remember seeing Britney Spears and Smash Mouth, but am unsure as to which of the two I attended first. Growing up, I was into music of all kinds, and although my cousin introduced me to electronic music at a young age, it didn’t resonate with me until I reached high school. I used to have to rely on others to hear new electronic music until I got my first laptop at 17 or so, that’s when I first hopped on the rollercoaster. That is the music industry. At first, I was attending raves/concerts/festivals in South Florida so regularly that I was beginning to get noticed and approached by promotion/production companies. The first show I promoted was Travis Scott at Grand Central; that was my first time promoting and my first time feeling that spark of knowing this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Shortly after promoting small club shows and festivals here and there, I interned with the marketing team at III Points to learn how a festival is run from the ground up. During my team with III Points, I learned as much as my brain physically allowed me to and experimented on the side by throwing underground hip hop parties in Kendall, FL. While at the time it seemed like the time of my life, looking back I felt very restricted even with those hip hop parties. It wasn’t until III Points didn’t hire me that the fire within me really set off – around that same time that I decided to begin to throw underground (and mostly unorthodox) electronic events and met the guys over at Cirx Records via Twitter DM’s.

Meeting Luis and Santi was a breath of fresh air. Although they were both younger than me, we had insanely similar tastes as far as music went and so I joined their team as their event producer. Since then we have been throwing events independently across South Florida, and now just recently sold out our first event in Orlando!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As previously stated, it’s been a rollercoaster since our inception in 2017. We’ve had tremendous successes (Played @ Club space, sold-out shows, well-received music releases, our first out of state booking in June of last year) but there are a lot of failures and struggles we’ve encountered along the way. There’s been many a night I’ve lost money on shows, many a time a promoter/venue/agent has told us no, many a time our friends or people we once considered friends weren’t willing to support us, many a time artists had to cancel on us – the list goes on and on. For every success you see publicly on my end there are probably 3+ headaches or failures that came with it. The biggest struggle I think was covid-19, but that’s with almost industry. We had such momentum getting out of 2019 and going into 2020 and were halted along with the rest of the world. Now we are slowly trying to get back to speed, curating unique and memorable experiences at our own pace and hopefully we can reach different cities along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Cirx Records ( @cirxrecords ) CMO & Event Producer I work with agents/artists, venues, and local talent to create unique and memorable event experiences across South Florida and beyond under the Cirx Records moniker.

In the past, we have hosted acts such as Mize, Iglooghost, Djrum, NastyNasty, Little Snake, and Um.., just to name a few. Don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of those acts as they are all underground electronic artists.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Luis Tirado – Founder of Cirx Records Santi Doseki – Founder of Cirx Records // first two people I met/were willing to truly put work in with the Miami electronic music market

David Sinopoli // I doubt he’s ever going to read this, but he was the first person to give me a chance at hosting a proper club night at the best club in miami ASIDE from throwing me insane opportunities during my time with III Points.

Santi Vidal – Lead Graphic Designer @ III Points // always being a homie and giving me advice on how things should be run, helping give me my first “festival throwing” experience.

Eduardo “Dexes” Cabezas // helped me get back into DJ’ing, helped me gain the confidence to pursue a job in the music industry.

My fiancee Ashley Pelaez for always putting up with my bs and believing in me every step of the way.
