Community Highlights: Meet Quanisha Nugent of Si Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quanisha Nugent.

Hi Quanisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Great question, my heart for the Non-profit community started when I sat on the starting committee for a Foundation that a philanthropist started at my school.

Throughout my career, I have worked with Commissioner Ortiz’s office as an Outreach Director, to working with a government-funded Non-profit for 3.5 years before branching off and starting my own company.

Philanthropy and community initiatives have always been near and dear to my heart.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t believe anything worth doing is a smooth road. I will say with every Entrepreneurial endeavor there are always challenges, from getting a client to pay you your worth to managing the expectations and satisfaction of your client’s experience. Seeing a woman of Color in the Professional Fundraising Industry is not something you see every day. About 5.9% of professional fundraisers are African-American, and more than half are over the age of 40. I definitely have faced issues in developing as a professional in this industry. I think my initial struggle was not allowing the opinions of others to stop me from doing it my way. Also, I have declined some pretty cool job opportunities.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Si Events?
Si Events Co is an Organization that provides Fundraising strategy and development through events for Non-profits; while helping companies align their mission and values with Non-profit organizations to create unique initiatives that impact the community. We specialize in events, we find our greatest success in coaching and planning events to help raise funds for local Non-profits.

I think there are some great leaders and organizations that provide phenomenal services, and we all have different strengths that make our companies unique. I love planning and managing events and finding ways to engage donors’ new and old.

Having the faith to start my company will always be something I am proud to accomplish. Brand wise, we just finished a campaign last year that helped a local Non-profit raise over $250,000.00, this was the most the organization has ever raised at a single event. We believe that Si Events helps companies think outside the box when it comes to fundraising, and we give businesses the opportunity for their teams to give back in a way that is true to them.

I am also proud to be a chair on the Association of Professional Fundraisers. I am also the Director of Non-profit for Contractors, Connections, and closers and Non-Profit organization that brings engineers, architects, and commercial real estate developers together to connect while giving back to the community.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think my genuine love for the community. It truly brings me joy to make others happy and to know that I am doing my part to make the community better. Every year we host a Secret Santa initiative that helps students experiencing Homelessness, living in foster care, living with extended families, or having a really hard time in life. We partner with local businesses to provide these beautiful children with Christmas presents. Every year we do the event, the more I feel so blessed to be a blessing to others. I truly love what I do and to know that my strategies and initiatives will help move the needle or inspire someone brings me an unmatched level of joy.
