Today we’d like to introduce you to Yails Hernandez.
Hi Yails, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a graphic designer from Cuba with more than 25 years of experience in the field. My family and I moved to Florida, in December 2014.
After the hurricane Irma and Maria, I started thinking about the possibility to develop a housing solutions for families displaced by natural disasters. I wanted to be able to provide a ‘home/shelter’ solution that will last longer than current solutions, and provide a more comfortable stay.
One thing lead to another and during COVID I created Hompacta and currently, we have 3 different models that not only could be used for people displaced from their home, but also as affordable housing solutions for several markets.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road to start a business, especially during a pandemic. The biggest struggle has been to meet with investors and interested parties, due to COVID. Additionally, it is very hard to obtain funding from banks and other institutions to support the development of a small business.
As a small business, everything is expensive and complicated. The owner of a small business has to wear different hats, and learn different traits, but the hardest part is to get other to support the business, either to attract clients or to get proper funding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hompacta is a local company that specializes in designing affordable modular houses for different solutions. We would like to support the needs of offering affordable/attainable housing in North America and around the world. Our houses are built inside a controlled environment and then transported either fully built or by sections to the final owner location. This style is called modular houses and there is tons of experiences with these business models. We set ourselves apart by not compromising modern and comfortable living and still offer our houses at affordable prices.
We target young adults that otherwise won’t be able to buy a house for the next 8-12 years or seniors/retirees that want to downsize, but still keep their freedom and flexibility.
Our models offer plenty of natural lights, sleek designs, full kitchen and full bathroom and still room for living and entertainment. We pride ourselves with listening to the clients and offer a solution within our models that will please anyone looking for this lifestyle.
Another application of our models is for Airbnb rentals. It is very attractive today to offer cabin style rental solutions which allow people to travel and still keep safe.
Finally, one of our models is the original solution for natural disaster displaced families, which could be easily moved from location to location.
