Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Alvarez.
Hi Katherine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was working at the airport for a few years in a management role. I never really knew in what direction I wanted to take my career all I knew was that I was happy at the airport and that I enjoyed growing within the company. Until the pandemic happened, and I lost my job. I was out of work for 7 months. That’s When I made the decision of starting something new and different. So I started doing lashes from home. After a month of doing lashes, I was offered my job back but in Tampa. I didn’t know what to do if to stay in Orlando doing lashes or take my job back. I was terrified of making the wrong move, lashes was new to me but the airport wasn’t so I ended up moving to Tampa and I was only doing lashes on my days off, I would drive to Orlando every weekend, I loved doing lashes but it just wasn’t enough at the time.
A year went by my lease was up and the big question came up again, stay at the airport or open up my own small business ?! and I made the decision of just doing Lashes and Brows as my full-time job. It was the best decision that I could’ve made.
I left the management/airport life and now I’m my own boss and work at a Salon, I have my own little suite.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been that smooth, the move from one city to another, the starting all over again and being positive all the time gets hard but I’m very grateful for the struggles. In the long run, I will always cherish and protect my business even more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love creating confidence in all my clients. I make them more beautiful with their lashes, eyebrows and wax. My goal is for them to walkout of the studio feeling more powerful.
I have a special bond with all my clients, they come in with an Idea of what they want and I try my best to make or give them exactly what they want and throw in my own little spice. I love seeing their faces when they open their eyes to see my work, and how happy they get.
I’m so proud of myself of how much I have grown in this industry and how eager I am to keep learning more. I love perfecting my work with each client. I’m forever grateful for all my clients, the new, the old, the ones that started getting their lashes done with me when I first started doing lashes at my sister’s house. I appreciate everyone’s support, especially my family.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The only advice I can give to anyone starting out is to FOCUS, just focused on your one ultimate goal. And listen to your intuition, we are all scared to make the big jump but in the end, is all worth it. Have a plan, think big! And believe in yourself, don’t ever doubt yourself. We are all capable of doing more than what we put our minds to.
