Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Rahman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a passion for baking, it’s something that I’ve been doing since I was really little. I would scroll through Pinterest for hours, finding recipes and inspiration and then I would spend hours in the kitchen recreating them. I started making cakes and cupcakes for my families and friends and after a while, people kept asking me why I didn’t sell my cakes. I made an Instagram page (@nadiaabakes) where I posted all of my pictures and then slowly but surely, people started messaging me to place orders. My first orders were definitely nerve wrecking and I will never forget them, I am forever grateful for those first few customers who trusted me. If you scroll really far back on my Instagram, you might see those cakes and though they are a little embarrassing, it’s nice to see how far I’ve come. After I graduated from UCF, I realized my baking was something I really wanted to focus on and so I invested more time into doing just that. I made a website, did giveaways, took on every single order I got, just to get my name out. I’ve spent the last few years doing what I love the most and it has definitely been a ride!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been bumps along the road. Every cake failure that you could think of, has probably happened to me! I’d forgotten orders until the night before, had cakes get completely destroyed in the car, and then the pandemic happening which halted business for a while. Every single cake has been a learning experience but it has all been worth it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am best known for making sweets and treats for everyone’s special occasions 🙂 I would say I am most proud of all of the wedding cakes I’ve done. I love knowing my creation was a part of someone’s big day and that they trusted me to do it. I hope that people can see the love I put into each and every item I make, and I hope I can inspire people to do what they love!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I actually don’t eat anything I make at all! I’m not a huge fan of cake which is funny considering all I do all day is make cake!
