Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel DeSando.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
SpeechForLife was an inspiration that grew from my passion to deliver speech therapy to children and my love of helping parents connect with their children. When I became a mother, I gained a new appreciation for how precious our family time is, and insight into how hard it is to find providers you can trust with the development of your children. My teletherapy solution gives families back the quality time they deserve with their children by eliminating the commute to therapy by incorporating the entire family into speech therapy sessions from the comfort of home that are uniquely designed for that child.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The greatest challenge through the pandemic has been trying to explain to families that this is not virtual school. Some teachers, students, and parents did not enjoy being forced into doing virtual school the last few years. My message for these families it that our teletherapy sessions are strategically planned by our passionate therapists to be personalized, and as engaging as possible, to help your child work towards their milestones as quickly as possible. We use their interests and favorite activities to help them do their best and inspire a love of learning. We want to give parents the tools to empower their child’s success at home and in school.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At SpeechForLife, our team of Certified and Licensed Speech-Language Pathologists has extensive training and experience specifically in the area of screening, diagnosing, and treating Dyslexia in addition to the areas of speech and language. We have a passion for literacy, stay up to date in implementing evidence-based therapy, and we are licensed providers of the Fast ForWord family of programs. Our Founder and Executive Director is the creator of the DeSando Dyslexia Screening Protocol to detect signs of dyslexia in students earlier and more accurately.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are very excited to be branching out in collaboration with some local private schools and preschools, to provide our specialty services to students not only virtually, but also by working side by side one on one with students and their teachers to maximize results and speed up progress.
