Today we’d like to introduce you to Laci DeMoss.
Hi Laci, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was in college, I wanted to switch my major from Nursing to Cosmetology. When I spoke to my grandfather about it, he told me “There is a salon on every corner what makes you think yours will be successful over anyone else’s”. I always had that in the back of my mind but my life journey brought me to a small boutique in Mt. Dora (many years later) offering spray tanning and teeth whitening. I loved skincare and everything about the beauty industry so I decided it was finally time to go to school for Esthetics and do my lifelong dream! I went to Lake Tech in Leesburg and while I was there, I took many additional trainings and certifications. I did as much as I could as a student to build my experience. While the road after that to Magnolia Grace Beauty co. was anything but easy it has been humbling and rewarding getting to where I am today! I can honestly say that my salon is successful and thriving and while I wish I had done it sooner the alignment in my life is now perfect and I am so grateful for what I have built.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was NOT a smooth road! I have had multiple failures and locations. I had to take some time away to really regroup myself, my niche, and what I wanted to cultivate in my business. After Covid, I went back to work after a small break. I built up my clients with a clear vision of what I wanted to offer. I gained some additional certifications along the way that would help me set my practice apart. I have assessed and reassessed every aspect of my business. I am for sure my own worst critic. Some of my main struggles along the way were simply myself. I am a do it all and now type of person and patience is not my thing. I had to learn to really understand when my time was right and humble my abilities a bit. I knew what I was capable of but my timing wasn’t always correct. I think when you own a business you want the world to see what your capable of and sometimes, we block our own blessings. I did that for a while and it took me taking a step back to realize what season of life I was in and be willing to accept those blessings before I added “more”. My husband and my family have been my greatest help and support system through this journey. My husband Ron DeMoss, encouraged me to go to school and finish my dreams. He and I have worked together side by side for a long time to get me to where I am today. I am forever grateful for his support. He owns a barbershop and for many years he has created rooms and accomplished so many projects for me to help me become successful and I am so appreciative for all his support!
As you know, we’re big fans of Magnolia Grace Beauty co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Magnolia Grace Beauty co. is a collective location of talented women! We offer skincare, waxing, makeup artistry, cosmetic tattooing, hair services, and lash extensions. Personally, I am the Esthetician, waxer, cosmetic tattoo artist, and 1 of the makeup artists! My number 1 requested service for the last 7 years has been Brazilian waxing! That is what most would say is my “specialty” but what makes me unique in my industry is my approach to clinical skincare solutions. When my clients come to me for skin-related issues, we do the work! I always say I am not a “zen” style Esthetician and if that is what you’re looking for I will gladly refer you to some amazing Esties in the area. However, if you are here for a reason- acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, hydration, texture, etc- I am your person. We go through health history; your goals and we customize a plan specific for you. I offer affordable skincare solutions, zoom consultations for those that are not local, and customized home treatment plans. I will not take a client if I know personally, I cannot help or get their desired results. I don’t promise anything to anyone I can’t achieve, and I have ALWAYS had that stance from the beginning. My clients appreciate that honesty and respectfully have been with me through all my years as an Esthetician. In addition to myself, I have 5 talented hairstylists that all specialize in their own unique niche and an amazing lash artist! I am so proud of the brand WE have created. Without them, I would not be Magnolia Grace Beauty COMPANY. I am forever grateful to my long-time stylists Coley Williams and Monique Buscemi for their continued dedication to my dream. My stylist Allysa Witham who came in wanting to just do men’s cuts. I encouraged her she was capable of so much more and she has proven that is so true! My brand-new stylist Brandi Jones that came looking for place to have freedom in her craft and in her business and trusted me to be the person and location to finally take that leap of faith. My soon-to-be NEW stylist (straight out of school) Bailey Hernandez – that is booked until JULY btw for trusting me as her first salon home! Last but not least my Lash tech Brenda Lee that is switching her whole life from one town to another and building from the ground up with me. These women, their lives, and my clients are why I do what I do! When you come in you will see why we are a family and why we are company you would want to keep!
What were you like growing up?
ALOT! haha. I was raised by my wonderful grandparents Paul & Lucille Gilligan. I didn’t have young “parents” and technically I was an only child (in their home). I was fortunate I suppose you could say in the expectation from having an older generation raise me but that didn’t come without its issues. I was left in my later years to “raise” myself and I grew up very quickly. I had a passion for everything and never knew how to niche it down. I was always a “100 irons in the fire” type of person. My grandma used to say “there are no flys on you girl” because I never sat still. I didn’t know what entrepreneur meant but I knew I wanted to work for myself one day. I am grateful for my schooling, upbringing, traveling and experiences that I have had in my life bc they have helped shape me into who I am today!
