Meet Asia Shay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Shay.

Hi Asia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Shadasia. Some people call me Shay for short and some people call me Asia. I’m 29 years old and I was born and raised in New York City…I started beauty school in New York back at the very end of the year in 2015. I can honestly say I don’t even remember how I ended up there or why I wanted to go because I wasn’t into doing hair before that at all. But I’m just so glad that I did. I graduated and got my cosmetology license and started working at The Drybar doing blowouts. I also started to gain my own clients and doing hair at home as well. I taught myself the things I didn’t learn in beauty school and made an Instagram page to promote my work. People supported me and referred me and that just made me go way harder. I made a lot of money! I saved a lot of money! As my family began to grow, I wanted to move and live more comfortably so I moved to Orlando around December 2020. I got my license for the state of Florida as well. I gained lots of clientele really quickly! I also started working at Blo doing blowouts. I aspire to open up my own beauty bar with the money I’ve been saving from doing what I love!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that the road I’ve traveled has been pretty smooth. I’m such a perfectionist and I like to master what I do before I do it. There have been times where I have wanted to give up and lost my inspiration but I never ever let that get to me. I will take a break. But I’m right back at it again in no time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist. I love to make people look and feel beautiful! It just does something to me and that’s what I’m the most proud of. I love to see people’s reaction when they look in a mirror and they just feel better about themselves. I do all types of hair. I braid, silk presses, blowouts, extensions, I color hair and wigs, I’ve tried a little bit of everything. Some things I can say are not for me and I would rather not do but still learning it makes me happy. I think what sets me apart from others is my versatility and my professionalism. I do so many different types of hair so I’m able to help anybody. I’m able to learn something and practice it until I get it right so that I can remain versatile. I say professionalism because I’ve been in situations where I stayed professional where I think some people would have lost it. ^_^

What does success mean to you?
Success to me can be small or big. As long as you have a goal and you’ve achieved that goal no matter what that goal was, that is success.
