Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer lazos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lazos.

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was always interested in photography in high school but was never able to actually take the classes at my school, there was always a waitlist and it just never worked out for me. Life happened, I had babies, got married, and kinda put my love for it to the side while I worked on raising my kids. I started taking photos of my kids and started to think that maybe I could do something with it again and from there it just kinda took off. Over the years I’ve fallen more and more in love with photographing women and showing them how amazing they really are. Over the years I’ve made some wonderful friends, and I’ve been honored to meet and photograph women who are on journeys with cancer, who are going through divorces and are looking for a way to feel better about themselves. I’ve watched my ladies have babies and expand their families. I’ve seen my ladies get engaged and later married. I tend to think of them as my extended family in a way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think owning a business is ever a smooth road, anyone who says it’s easy is probably full of it lol. It’s not always easy, there are plenty of times I’ve thought of shutting it all down and going back to work for someone else, but there’s no way I could walk away from everything I’ve built the last few years. The biggest challenges for me are time management and saying “no”. I always try to do my best to accommodate my client even if it means I’m working 24/7.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started to focus on boudoir photography about 8 years ago, and about 3-4 years ago I started to add in personal work. Creative projects that are fueled 100% by my feelings, ideas and are sort of a therapy for me. I adore boudoir, showing women every day how badass they are, beautiful and strong. I think I’m mostly known for doing things that most people aren’t and for always changing up my studio to find the best light to create amazing images.

Some of my proudest moments were winning Best in Show with some of my personal work earlier this year at my first every gallery show. Not only did I win but my pieces sold before the opening show. My work with my ladies brings me a lot of joy and pride when my ladies see their images and seeing how amazing they are.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Boudoir is starting to emerge in the photography industry as a whole, it’s becoming less of a quiet option and we’re starting to be more and more recognized. I see boudoir becoming more and more commonplace as the world and society continue to be body positive.
