Today we’d like to introduce you to Sajie Jay.
Hi Sajie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Severe depression really jump-started my personal fitness journey and became my outlet on my quest to “feeling good”. Once I started, I became addicted to working out! Pretty sure it was the endorphins because I have yet to quit or have taken a break from training since I began almost 4 years ago this Saturday (10.30). You learn so much about your body and habits when you’re locked in and focused on a specific goal and I noticed that so many women are naturally at a disadvantage when trying to lose weight just due to biology so when I decided to look at what my target market would be I knew I’d really be of value to an all-woman roster.
I started as a part-time trainer in April of 2019 after posting a flyer my trainer/mentor created for me that I was accepting new clients. After a month I had 8 new clients and I was so happy and I was good at it! I finally felt like I was walking in my purpose.
Simultaneously, I was still working full-time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. While I really did enjoy my job there, I saw early on that there wasn’t any real room for growth unless I was ready to dedicate years to a desk and that did not seem like a fulfilling life for me so I began to really look at other options. The idea of working for myself sounded so cool but scary! Everything is literally depending on you, especially in the beginning but I kept praying and working both jobs until I got my confirmation. Less than 6 months of training part-time, my turn was up next.
Sidenote: In August of 2019 I visited Tulum with a group of friends and on that trip, I vividly recall landing in Mexico and saying to my friends “Self-employment is coming in 2020” Let me tell how powerful the tongue is. When I arrived back in Miami, I get a call the same day I land from job and I was presented with a choice to continue what I was already doing or take a chance on my future and that day changed everything. I was so nervous but I’ve officially been working for myself since September 20th, 2019.
I have been working hard on improving my brand since. I’ve grown my clientele and assisted so many women lose whopping amounts of weight! I personally have a client who’s lost 100 pounds since beginning her fitness journey with me, I’ve developed an online presence through the creation of my website, online challenges, and virtual training, and I’ve created my own fitness products such as workout gloves, resistance bands, apparel, jump ropes, and even wrote an e-book which is all available on sajiejayiitness.com. I am currently working on a huge event that we host here at our gym called “Trap Workout” we’ve seen as many ass 88 sign-ups in one night for this unique workout event that is marketed as a glow in the dark workout party to trap music by the very famous Miami DJ @DJNASTY305 of 99JAMZ who has also been featured on VERZUZ. I am very grateful for all I’ve been able to do and what’s to come.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There hasn’t been anything smooth about this journey. My biggest struggle is always finding the motivation to show up at my full potential every single day… It’s impossible but I understand how efficiently I and my business runs when I do. There have been many other struggles too such as learning to use systems (still learning) to automate and help assist me run my business better without trying to remember everything off the top of my head. Time management is also a big one especially when you create your own schedule so I really have to make sure I’m spending and planning my time accordingly since I also do business in real estate alongside with being a personal trainer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sajie Jay Fitness?
I am currently a personal trainer who specializes in small group training, one on one, online, and live virtual training. I am known for getting my clients great results due to intense and effective training while building their confidence and positively impacting their mental, emotional, and physical wellness.
I am so proud of my brand’s growth. In a matter of two years, I’ve been able to enhance the lives and wellness of over 80 individuals both virtually and in person. I am also extremely proud of my business for surviving a global pandemic shortly after being started. I am happy to have a multifaceted brand that not only promotes physical appearance but emotional and mental wellness. I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to hear that through exercise I’ve been able to help my clients combat things such as being pre-diabetic, chronic depression, anxiety, and being overweight.
I think that my personal fitness journey is what sets me apart from others. I struggled and I worked extremely hard to be where I am right now, but I didn’t quit even while struggling with severe depression. I dedicated myself to my goals and I remained consistent for four years now and most importantly, I made the necessary lifestyle change while setting realistic goals for myself and that’s what I love the most about my fitness approach. It’s REAL. We get in shape and we stay in shape!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m the oldest of three siblings. Such a random fact but so many people do not know that I have a brother and a sister and it’s always funny when I mention something about them in conversations and people look at my like since when??? hahaha. This just stems from the fact that despite my social media presence I am actually pretty shy in person and tend to be very private with my personal life.
