Daily Inspiration: Meet Keshon Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshon Campbell.

Hi Keshon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Saint Louis, Mo. My Childhood consisted of an abundance of creative endures and sports. Track and Field was my passion for the longest and earned me over 8 trips to the junior Olympics where I would place top 8 among some of the top athletes across the country in a variety of events. At the age of 13, I Would go on to become the National Champion in the pentathlon for my age division. While I loved track, it was slowly fading away from being my passion and I began to tap more into my creative side. I began summer acting camp with the Black Repertory Theater and would land my first acting role in their mainstage production of “A Raisin in the sun.” Here I met some of the most incredible actors from across the country who inspired me to push myself even further. This led me to take acting more seriously and I eventually got signed to Images Agency in Saint Louis, MO. There I would book 2 scholastic magazine jobs. As high school came around, I wasn’t quite sure what path I wanted to take. I knew track was what I did most of my life but creating was my real passion. After many failed auditions and callbacks, I went on to start writing, directing, and acting in my own films. At the age of 14, I started my company Keshon Campbell Films and have been creating ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been the smoothest road. Obstacles include Creative blocks, people who didn’t always want the best for me, and finding my creative voice as a Black Man in America. It’s not always easy telling the stories I do without receiving criticism or hate from opposing viewpoints who can’t agree or relate. But the most important thing is that I believe in myself and that is all that matters.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an overall creative person. I’ve been creating ever since I was a child and have learned to carry on those aspects into adulthood and a professional manner. Telling stories has always been my passion, which is one of the big reasons I got into filmmaking. There’s something so beautiful about bringing fake worlds to life through the art of film. Photography has always been a huge passion of mine and I often set up my own sets to do editorial self-portraits. I am most proud of my growth within the recent years. I set goals for myself and continue to break and exceed my own expectations every day. I’ve completed more projects in the first 3 months of 2022 than I did the entire year of 2021. I would say what sets me apart from everyone else is my unique vision and portrayal of telling stories. I like to take ordinary things and take them to the level visually in a way people have not seen before. I don’t believe there are any rules when it comes to creating what is true to me. I recently started creating music when the pandemic first started. I would make cinematic pieces of music to go along with my films. A little over a year later I released my first album “Reflections” where I reflected on my previous years of life, growing up, and becoming the person I am today.

What did you like growing up?
I was always creating. I Am the youngest of 5. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. We have always been hard workers and everyone has motivated each other to be the best versions of ourselves. My parents have always been very supportive of my dreams and creativity. They allowed me to creatively express myself by setting up art shows around the house and putting on talent shows, and I used to even write them stories and make art to go along with it. I would say I’m a very good and loving person. My parents raised me on the term, you receive what you put out into this world. This has always stuck with me because it is very true. I am very introverted, but once you get to know me, I promise I don’t shut up lol.
