Daily Inspiration: Meet Angela Mackey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Mackey.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
5yrs ago I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and several Co-infections. It had crossed into my heart, brain and muscles, liver.

I spent a year and a half on iv antibiotics and the past 4yrs on oral antibiotics and antivirals and herbs, supplements, and strict diet.

I’ve had 4 surgeries to the left side of my head due to tumors from Lyme meningitis.

I’m deaf on the left and losing on the right. As bad as I have it, others are worse than I. So, my husband and I started a nonprofit for Lyme Disease 4 years ago. I work hard to educate the community and raise funds for Lyme patients and their families. I do teddy bear drives for Lyme children. I now offer supplements to help inflammation for patients in effort to offer some sense of aid. I’m on social security but that doesn’t stop me from helping everyone I can. Life is incredibly short and this world needs more compassion and understanding.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I now have a heart murmur. I’m deaf and struggle with side effects of multiple surgeries to the head.

I’ve had to hunt down Doctors who treat and believe in Chronic Lyme.

I’ve lost friendships, my career path, and things I did prior to my illness.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I run a nonprofit for Lyme Disease. The ONE LYME Foundation

I raise funds to help patients in need.

I work with owners to train their dogs for ESA work so they won’t feel lonely.

I help educate about Lyme and co-infections.

I don’t think anything sets anyone apart from others.

I’m compassionate and caring and I give of myself always.

I know what it’s like to grow up abused, then recover, then raise a family, get sick, fight for your life and now fight for others.

What was you like growing up?
My life has been about animals. My entire life is my animals. I worked as a vet technician with a mobile clinic off and on for 20yrs.

I offered private dog training.

I became a groomer and then went on to be an award-winning dog groomer.

If it’s about dogs. I’m down lol.
