Conversations with Lakisha Pennyman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakisha Pennyman.

Hi Lakisha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Orlando, Fl. I actually went to Culinary School back in high school but I unfortunately did not finish the program. I would bake for coworkers for our job socials and I always received nothing but good raves about my desserts that’s when I decided to start selling desserts

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! To be honest, as everyone knows it takes quite a bit of money to start and run a small business and to get to my goal of having a food trailer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a professional career in the medical field for over 20 years. Guilty Pleasure Desserts is a side hustle of mine that I started a little prior to the COVID. I could not have done it without my family and better half. I’m most proud that I did not quit my passion of baking during the COVID pandemic, it has actually made me want to go harder to achieve my goal of the food trailer being I want to have something in place for my daughters and or grandkids to one day take over the family business. What sets me apart from others, I would say just me being me, when it comes to our desserts. We are not in competition with anyone, there is room for all of us to become successful. At Guilty Pleasure Desserts we provide made to order desserts: PoundCakes, Cupcakes, Cakes and more and we also customize for those special occasions.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was not so much outgoing but I did stay active with activities, Girl Scouts was actually the best thing I joined back then, my interest was animals, I wanted to become a Zoologist at one point lol
