Hi Destiny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey creating the idea of Noswald July 2019 and launched my brand December 2019 during the time of the pandemic. Noswald is a forward fashion house of luxury and modern handbag collections. Defined by authenticity, freedom, vibrancy yet disruptive style pieces!
The backstory of the name Noswald, it’s the first initial of my first name and maiden name spelled backwards. My mother actually assisted in creating the name. I definitely have to give credit were due. I always wanted to make sure the brand reflected myself and my family’s name.
My success so far comes from developing a long-term plan and breaking it into short-term actions. It also comes from the continued support of my customers pushing me to create more. I still consider myself a new business owner so at this stage, I am still a one-woman show. I had to make sure to build a strong foundation for my business and it does take time and sacrifice. I’ve learned in order to succeed, you must prioritize. Eliminating activities that do not benefit your business and prioritize business activities are key to establishing a strong foundation.
Right now, I’m in the process of rebranding Noswald. The brand is currently away working on a modern, elevated, and classic look for my customers and their experience. My brand will have more signature pieces. Relaunch is expected to happen December 2022!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but I’ve been able to figure a few things out on my own by researching and asking questions from my friends that also own businesses. Some of the struggles I’ve come across would be figuring out things such as taxes, ordering materials, and navigating social media for the brand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my professional career, I work in the insurance industry. I’ve been in this field for 3 years now. I would say I’m known for giving back to my community. I don’t publicize it all over social media as I should but I’m most proud of my scholarship I developed with my alma mater, Florida International University in Miami, Florida. I created the Destiny Lawson Study Abroad Endowment Scholarship back in 2019 and it will become active this summer.
The scholarship was created to provide support to black students wanting to study abroad in their field of study and broaden their horizons. The first scholarship will be awarded to a black student starting this summer and I’m very excited.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The only luck that had played a role in my life and business is God. I wouldn’t be where I am in my personal life or business without him. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a close group of friends that are pretty much family that also own their businesses to help me through this business journey.
