Exploring Life & Business with Asia Whitlow of Valley Girl Credit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Whitlow.

Hi Asia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being born & raised in a small town isn’t as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, or at least it didn’t seem like it to me. I’ve always had this sense of pride being from where I’m from. We didn’t & still don’t have a lot of positive opportunities to shed light on the positive changes & resources that our own people in the community have given andor have to offer. Some (most) of us didn’t grow up being taught about personal finances & most definitely not business finances. Of course, we had individuals in our community that owned their own small businesses but there was never any time to teach because we were all too busy just surviving. Now don’t get me wrong; there were times when my family was pretty low financially & there were times when we were comfortable but my parents & even some extended family always made sure each other never truly had to go without. I was always fortunate enough to be able to participate in different sports, dance lessons & even modeling, So I have been on many different paths but overall, the tough situations I did go through growing up geared my interest on what I needed to do as an adult to always be financially secure & what I needed to know in order to make sure I would be able to survive in the real world. I’ve made huge mistakes along my journey of learning the world of finances but it’s most definitely all been worth it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
HAS THERE? Haha. I’m glad I can just laugh about it now. The road has definitely been a bumpy ride. I’ve had so many financial learning experiences throughout my short 28-year-old life but I’m more than grateful just because I feel that my age group (Millennials) weren’t given a true introduction to finances in the REAL world. Economics class for me when I was in high school was all more geared toward political subjects; not actually learning about how to open a bank account, how to write a check or balance your checkbook, what is a credit score? How to build a credit score & so forth. So, you can say I’ve gone through quite a bit of trial & error to get to this point!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Valley Girl Credit & Co.?
