Rising Stars: Meet Anisa Carty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisa Carty.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a very young age, my mother always instilled in me the importance of being well-rounded. Growing up I was involved in many different activities to be in a state of constant learning and evolving. From piano lessons, martial arts, dance, swimming lessons, theater, track, etc., it was always important in my household to never remain stagnant and to always pursue growth. Although I was involved in many different things at a young age, the arts were something I grew a strong passion for. Being able to artistically express myself through multiple creative outlets is what started my journey as a creative.

Dance was essentially my first love and has been the most consistent thing throughout my life. I started my dance journey at the age of five years old and grew a passion for dance throughout my life. I’ve been trained in multiple styles of dance including ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, musical theater, modern, and contemporary. I have been a part of various dance teams growing up and competed in national dance competitions throughout my childhood. During my college years, I was accepted into the dance minor program and was a part of a UCF-based dance team at my university. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in technical education and a minor in dance. I also received my teaching license certification to teach dance K-12 in the state of Florida. I have worked at performing arts schools teaching dance and at local dance studios in the Orlando community. After college, I performed as a professional dancer for local shows, festivals, and gigs in the Florida area.

During my college years, I began to grow an interest in visual arts such as photography, videography, and film. I was fascinated by the process of being able to tell a story through digital visual art. I started my YouTube channel back in 2017 and started creating content surrounding my personal life and journey as a creative. As the years went on as being a content creator, I started creating content on other platforms with a focus on natural hair, traveling, dance, beauty, and overall lifestyle. I love being able to inspire, motivate, and entertain people through digital storytelling. I’ve got to work with different brands on influencer campaigns and have gotten so many opportunities just through social media. What started out as just a hobby/passion project turned into the stepping stone of my multi-passionate creative career.

From my previous experience of being the captain for my dance team in high school to leading the dance department at a performing arts school I realized that I love creating safe spaces for people to express themselves through dance.

In 2021 I launched my first business known as Creative Dance Outlet. I created Creative Dance Outlet to make a safe space for creative movement and self-expression through the art of dance in a private setting. Dance has been an expressive outlet for me throughout my life. Growing up as a shy child, I didn’t feel that I was able to express myself through words. Dance has been a way for me to express myself in ways that words couldn’t. I want to help other people channel their emotions and creativity through the art of dance. My mission is to create a safe space for people to not only have fun in dance but also as a form of therapy.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When you’re someone who has multiple interests, it can be challenging to find a community where you belong. What has been most difficult for me was sticking true to who I am. In the creative space, most people want you to niche down and fit into one box. Learning how to follow my own path, although what most will say is unconventional, has been the most challenging part of my journey. I’m definitely still on that journey of finding myself and my place in this world.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

I’m currently a freelancer at the moment and work different contract jobs while also pursuing my creative projects/side hustles. I have my dance business where I teach private dance lessons and a travel blog where I post tips and advice on my traveling adventures. I still work with different brands as a content creator on campaigns, and I also get modeling and talent opportunities in the Orlando community.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my versatility. I’m not afraid to step outside the box and learn something new.

What was you like growing up?
I was very shy as a young girl. Dance was the tool that I used to open up more and really show more of my personality. I am still introverted to this day but I have grown more confidence in who I am.
