Conversations with Matt Guzzi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Guzzi.

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My passion for music came from my dad. Growing up I always heard him playing the drums, which I believed help me find a natural rhythm when it came to music. This helped me in middle school band where I played the snare drums. After a while, I started thinking of ways to make my own music. It took me a while exploring the options, I started DJing but after a while it got boring. I finally realized I wanted to fully create my own music around 2020. I found a free program called LMMS, which was a DAW. I was originally planning on this all to be a simple hobby until I found FL Studio. Once I got that DAW, I knew this is what I wanted to do, so I started working on it. Making hundreds of beats a year, perfecting my craft. Now it’s 2022, and I still don’t feel like this is it yet. I still feel I have so much more perfecting to do before I can consider myself set and ready to take everything in.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy, but I wouldn’t call this path of mine rough. My passion for it in itself has carried me through the lows, such as beat block, and no one really listening to your craft.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a producer making mostly trap and hip-hop beats, however, I tend to merge into other genres of music such as dancehall, pop, indie, and alternative occasionally. I believe I am known for my unique and hard drum patterns and sounds, as well as good beat arrangements and spacious melodies making it easy for anyone to get on. My very first tape dropped on all platforms, called “Nova.” It’s a simple producer album I made with a lot of my friends, just to get everyone’s names out and get people listening. I believe my versatility in music, and genres can and will separate me from others.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I really enjoy the liveliness of downtown, and obviously, the underground music scene here in Orlando is amazing. In all honesty, I don’t really have any dislikes so far, I’ve only been here around 8 months.
