Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianna Rivera.
Adrianna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in the hair industry for about 14 years. It was the perfect career because you get to collaboratively create art and make connections with new people each time. Once I realized I had an opportunity to do something I loved daily I used all my resources to make it happen. I started going to hair school my sophomore year of high school at night. I would go to high school during the day and at 5 pm clock into hair school for the rest of the night. It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences and I’m forever grateful for finding it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I specialize in corrective cuts/colors, so I think I actually enjoy having challenges. The biggest challenge for me has been work/life balance. When you create your own schedule it’s hard to not overwork yourself. But I’ve allowed myself to create boundaries with my schedule like any other job. I know I give my best work when I’m at my best, so that means allowing time for myself outside of that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say my style is lived in. I love cuts that suite the natural texture of the hair.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was very much a “Tomboy” and never had interest in hair or makeup. My mom started hair school my freshman year of high school. I would go visit her at her first salon job often. They offered me my first job at 15 and I became an assistant/receptionist of a very busy diverse salon. I loved the atmosphere and the interaction between the stylist and their clients.
