Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahmina Tofader.
Hi Tahmina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved henna. Ever since I was young, I remember I always used to ask My cousin sister to do my henna. When it started to fade, I used to redo the design. She was my 1st inspiration ☺️ My love for henna brought me here today. I made it as a profession a long time ago. I began my henna adventure in back home Bangladesh. I used to do henna for my families and close friends. After a while, my husband inspired me to take this professionally. I made a Facebook page 1st with all my henna pictures. People started noticing me after that.
I also did henna in New York. When I moved to Florida, I continued my passion. I remember my uncle helped first show me exposure by taking me to a culture fair. I think my journey as a henna artist in Florida started from that day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road! In our culture henna is nice for parties and for weddings. No one sees henna as a serious profession. If you do makeup for people as a profession they’ll call you a makeup artist, but if u do henna you will never be seen as an artist! When I started henna as a profession, I faced lots of criticism. But I never stopped. I want to make being a henna artist more of a respectable profession so other artists can be inspired to join this fascinating field of work too!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a henna tattoo artist located in Kissimmee, Florida. It’s a temporary tattoo that stays up to 2weeks. I do henna for the brides for their big day. Also, I do henna for any other occasion too. I’m most proud of all my bridal work that I did however what makes my work so unique is that I have experience doing beautiful large-scale henna designs on shoulders, stomachs, legs, full arms, and more! I also do customized designs on canvas/candles. I love doing henna so every time I do henna for someone, I put all my love and effort into making it beautiful!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I can say I was a little introvert but always good to others. I used to always get good grades in school which kept my parents happy. I have always been super in love with art and that’s what led me to do henna as second nature!
