Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Cabrera.
Hi Claudia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Guayaquil-Ecuador. I immigrate to the United States alone when I was 18 years old… Like all immigrant, we come with ambition and dreams that we want to accomplish, but for some reasons they were affected by barriers like status and language. I started working as a waitress, housekeeping, and babysitter at the beginning. I married and I have a wonderful son who came to complement my life and support me with his existence to continue my journey. After being divorced and a single mom, I always knew that there are no obstacles that can interrupt with God’s plan.
In 2010 I started educating myself to help the community. I started helping my family and friends with federal/state aid assistance and immigration forms. This gives me great satisfaction to know that I can help people who really need it with my knowledge and work the language was one of the obstacles since I never studied it but I learned it by educating myself. This started as a hobby while working as a customer service and later I was promoted to supervisor for customer service and sales department. . After this that hobby became my second job and from this hustle started what is today CMCO GENERAL SERVICES LLC. A company that helps our community but with focus for the Spanish-speaking community and low-income families. In 2019-2020 CMCO helps a lot of people with applications, appeals for unemployment. It has been a great satisfaction for CMCO that we help many people at a time. During the pandemic that affected everyone, 305 Waves Corp emerged. Boats rides have always been around but it was when the pandemic hits that those rides took a huge turn! No one could leave the house, everything was closed! But the boats and yachts rides were available to go out to enjoy our sea and fresh air.305 waves is a Bareboat charter company now and works together with CMCO creating companies under the Bareboat charter law for all those who start in this business/industry in the city of the sun. In 2021 I became a Real Estate agent, investing in properties is something that I have always liked and today I’m working for my next big step in this industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all. It has been a hard road. 305WAVES was a challenge for me, most of those who work in this industry are men, and the fact that I am a woman was and has been a challenge. Many do not believe in my ability, others ignored me and some offended me. With CMCO has been the commitment to help many families in a time of crisis and many found themselves in financial distress. During the pandemic I can say that it was one of the most difficult moments where people were desperate, many called me crying because many did not know how to apply for the aid that was being given at that time and they no longer had anything to eat or money to pay their rent. The unemployment was a chaos for many of them where did not get answers and the hours of waiting on the phone were endless. It was a big commitment.!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned along this path that, no matter what happens, it is up to us to know what we want and where we are going. That no matter how difficult it is, we must be persistent. We all go through difficult experiences and that if we propose something, we fight to achieve it. I learned that the honesty, humility, and values are powerful weapons that no one can take away and as a woman and mother that I am, I am proud to represent all those women out there who are fighting for their dream!
