Check Out September Ray’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to September Ray.

Hi September, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved all types of art and expression. My major in college was photography at Academy of Art University in San Fransisco, but I soon changed paths and started doing abstract acrylic paintings instead. I have some health issues that make photography tough on me now so I found something else I was even more passionate about. I really enjoy the acrylic painting the most but I also just started a beauty blog on the side covering makeup as well! I always wanted to post about makeup, beauty, and the art that is involved in that. It’s a good outlet for my creativity. I am drawn to bright colors which is expressed in my acrylic art and makeup alike. Living in Orlando has opened my eyes to see all the possibilities!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth is far from how it was for me. I was born with a rare bone condition, Multiple Hereditary Exostosis, so beginning at a young age I was set apart from others and had to adapt to the conditions I was put in. I also developed Fibromyalgia in college which is why I put photography on hold and found a new type of art that I ended up loving much more. I think having these health issues really taught me to appreciate all that I am given and able to do, even if I am much different than most people. I had to find my own non-traditional route in life and that showed me there is glory on the other side of struggle!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most passionate about my acrylic paintings, most of which are colorful abstract style but I also do beach art as well! I love to use real sand and shells in my ocean-style art, and for the abstract, I tend to use a ton of colorful fluorescent paints to give it a glow under blacklight! I plan to get myself into some art festivals and shows as soon as possible! I am still new to living in Florida so I have a lot of opportunities ahead of me! I also just started up blogging and making videos about makeup and beauty. I find that to be a great creative outlet as well. Anything that involves color is right up my alley! I think what sets me apart from others is I am not afraid to just be myself and make art that makes me happy. I want to make art that expresses happiness and joy. I would love to get into giant huge paintings, murals, and commercial work!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Anything can happen! Maybe virtual reality art exhibits! Makeup and beauty is always changing. I think all art is in motion all the time, you never know what the future brings!
