Today we’d like to introduce you to Takeshia Rhynes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My Philosophy is simple: “Your life is a message to the world, Make it Inspiring” Here’s my story! Success wasn’t destined for me, I had to take success. I’m truly a living testimony that anything is possible if you have faith, work hard, and never give up. I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. I was an at-risk youth growing up. I was always in trouble and headed down a bad path. People counted me out but I was determined to make a change and break the cycle. I knew God had a better plan for my life but I was broken, lost, and had no vision for my life. Everything started to change my senior year in high school. I was very grateful to have found my gifts and talents at an early age.
Immediately after high school, I went to a technical school to be an electronic systems technician which I successfully completed. I then received an opportunity to work at Comcast cable as a technician. Shortly after I was in a car accident and broke my elbow. I was no longer able to be a technician, which at the time felt like a major setback but ended up being the setup to finding my gift in sales. I was able to transfer within the company to a Customer Account Executive position selling cable, internet, and phone services. I became very successful in this position and was the top sales rep in the call center. This is when I started to see how God was changing my story. Because of my accomplishments, in 2009 they offered me a new position in Atlanta Georgia as a direct sales rep (Door to Door). I quickly became one of the top sales associates in the region. Although I was making more money than I could have ever imagined I still felt like there was something missing in my life.
That’s when my life plans started to shift to align with God’s will for my life. God was ready for me to not only live life but start walking in my purpose. They say the 2 best days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why. In 2013, I found out why God made me experience everything I went through. My purpose is to inspire people that no matter what you’ve been through or what life throws your way you can still WIN.
In 2014, I resigned as the top sales rep, I took my 401k and life savings and went on a journey to pursue my passion of helping young adults become successful despite what they have been through. I started an Independent Living Program called A Change Generation for homeless youth who aged out of foster care. We provided the young adults with housing as well as helping them get their high school diplomas and teaching them life and social skills. It took me two years to build the program and obtain a state-funded contract from the Department of Family Children Services. By the time I received the contract it had taken much longer and much more money than I had anticipated to the point I almost lost everything including my cars and house. However, it was all worth it in the end. We were able to change many young adults’ lives and become one of the top-rated ILP programs in the state of Georgia. After most of the young adults graduated from the program, I decided it was time to get back in sales.
In 2018, I moved to Daytona Beach Florida because of my love for the beach. This is when I started my real estate career journey. I immediately fell in love with the business. At this point of my life, I have been in the sales and customer service industry for over 16 years. I always knew I was a born problem solver and helping people would be my life mission. Real estate was a natural fit for me because I’m a very outgoing person and I love talking to people. I’ve had a very successful career in real estate in a short time. It’s really a miracle everything I’ve accomplished in only 3 years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, I experienced many obstacles but I truly believe the key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles. Real estate is a tough business and there is a lot of competition. Business was really slow in the beginning and I didn’t know if I was going to make it. It was a challenging start,13 months after starting my real estate career the world was shut down due to covid-19. Then being new to Daytona Beach not knowing anyone was very challenging because I learned very quickly your business is mostly made up from the people you know. When I first started, I found myself doing what other realtors said worked for them which cost me a lot of money. I was spending all of my savings on realtor fees and marketing so I had to figure out something fast to stay in the business. I realized I had to find what works for me and that’s when everything started to fall into place.
Honestly, learning the real estate business was hard; there was so much information to learn. In the beginning, it was very challenging trying to learn everything I needed to know. I remember being so frustrated not knowing what to say or the right questions to ask when people I met were thinking of buying or selling. I was so intimidated in the first year. Even though I had an extensive background in sales, I didn’t know a lot about real estate. I was determined to be successful so I made it a priority to learn everything I could about the real estate business. I went to every training I could find and spent countless hours online learning from different real estate experts.
