Community Highlights: Meet Rob Waddy of Gas Up Athletics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Waddy.

Hi Rob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Being an ex-football player myself I’ve always had a love for the game. I started Coaching football just to bond with my son but it didn’t take long to realize that this is what I’m supposed to do. I began on a mission to Coach and eventually create my own organization; I was blessed to not have to start my own but had the opportunity to save another So I took over The Apopka Raptors AAU Football and Cheer Non-Profit organization. I stayed with no Board members, No players, and No Coaches. But with months of hard work the success story for the Apopka Raptors will be conversation around the city of Apopka for a long time if not forever. I have always trained my son and a few of his teammates and they all have been successful on and off the football field. I then decided to full time dedicate myself to youth athletes on and off football field, Me, my athletes and their families become one family. I come from not such a good place and I have seen all the obstacles the youth not just athletes have to go through to make it and I will be a helping hand to anyone that needs help.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road for me at all, after retirement from my previous field of work I had to take a leap of faith starting with just 2 athletes one being my son. It’s a small market with a lot of workers and it’s not easy to show people that your training works. But after months of online promotion and free camps and training It finally began to catch eyes and I went from 2 athletes showing up to camp to 15-20 Athletes and the response has been great.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
