Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Cotton III.
Melvin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a music artist and film producer, this is my goal. With every song I write, every film/television show I create, my number one goal is to inspire people through my Faith in Jesus Christ; while entertaining them through my creativity. I first started creating music when I was a 15-year-old freshman in high school. It was all fun for me and then as I grew in my faith, GOD allowed my experiences to flow through my rhymes and speak to those who were my age. As I went on to college, I began to fuse my musical abilities with film. Using this platform to give audiences a visual of the words I spoke.
I believe music is the soundtrack to our lives, if you close your eyes and think of any moment (good, bad or in-between) usually there is a song associated with that moment. I also believe film allows us to dream. It gives us visuals to see past our current state and for a short while, takes us to a place of fantasy. My hope is that through my content (music & film), I can provide encouragement to every person who listens or watches. Giving them practical tools that they can apply to their lives. Helping push people to there GOD given destiny, with a focus on Jesus Christ and allowing Him to lead them in the pursuit of their dreams. “INSPIRE & ENTERTAIN” this is my mission, my purpose, my dream!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In this journey, I have been pushed, overlooked, questioned, but I still remained determined. Just like with any goal, you will be tested with multiple obstacles. But ultimately, you have to stay focused and see you goal achieved, especially when it seems so far from reach. For me, what helps me stay focused is looking into the eyes of my son. One day he will need to hear how I overcame struggles to reach my goals. My story will encourage him, he is my little motivation. Every morning he and I say morning affirmations together. This is a daily reminder of the greatness he has inside of him, but also, this is a reminder for me. This keeps me pushing forward when things get tough. I keep these little moments in my mind as encouragement.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what I’m most pleased with is the content I create, I make it practical. My goal is to inspire and entertain audiences; and I have been able to make my content easy for viewers to digest yet still be profound. Change by itself is already hard, and when you are using entertainment to create thought-provoking content that promotes inspirational change, it’s very important to make your content attractive, easy to understand and digestible. I have been able to accomplish that, and more importantly, it has left an impact on my viewers. I’m honored to have this opportunity to encourage others and for fans to allow me (my content) into their lives. THANK YOU!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that may surprise people is, I can juggle. Yes, I know it’s random but It’s actually fun and a stress reliever. I learned how to juggle back in elementary school in the 4th grade. That skill has never left me. Every so often, I’ll grab a few of my son’s toy balls and juggle. He gets a kick out of it!
