Check Out Lindsey Barber’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Barber.

Hi Lindsey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My family and I packed up and moved from Texas to Florida in the summer of 2019. We lived there for about 8 years, but it just wasn’t where we wanted to make ours forever home. It was too hot and too far from everything. Plus, I’m a Florida girl born and raised, so I was itching to get back to The Sunshine State.

Prior to moving to Florida, I was an entrepreneur and it felt like I was working 24/7. However, my new Florida life includes me staying home for the first time in my life. This was a change I was ready for, a change that I honestly dreamed of before we moved to Florida. I mean honestly, who doesn’t daydream of never having to work again?

Staying home is filled with a lot of alone time, which was something I had to adjust to. As a creative person, I dove into my artwork to help fill my downtime. One of my favorite creative outlets is taking pictures of nature, landscapes, and animals. Living in Brevard County I find myself surrounded by so much beauty it’s impossible not to try and capture it all.

Over time I started building a pretty large collection of photos and videos but hadn’t really shared them with the world yet. It wasn’t that I was afraid to share them, I just hadn’t thought about it. That was until my husband suggested making a page to share my work. He’s always been my biggest fan and says he loves how I light up when I’m working on my art.

Since starting my page, the attention my work has gotten has been so much more rewarding than keeping them to myself. I feel like my photos and videos give the Space Coast a chance to shine in the spotlight as well. We live in such a cool and beautiful place, I’m happy I get to be someone who can capture it and share it with the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Submitting myself to something artistic rather than a productive career was a challenge for me. I worked my butt off to become an entrepreneur. It took years of experience, time in the military, and a Bachelor’s Degree. Walking away from all of that was scary and challenging at times. It was hard convincing myself it was ok to spend the entire day trying to get the perfect shot. I was so used to thinking I needed to be working a traditional job or reaching high levels of production.

When we first moved to Florida, I didn’t dive into photography right away, I was even a little depressed for the first year. Without a job, I was losing my sense of purpose. I’m not the type to sit in misery for too long before I do something to change it. I decided to start focusing on the hobbies that bring me joy, like photography. My photography and creating content really saved me. It gives me purpose and it gives me something to “put on my schedule.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I take beautiful, fun, and creative photographs and videos that capture the world around me. I currently specialize in landscape and nature photography. I love playing with light, shadows, and angles. I’m known for my sunrise and beach photos. I’m always promoting the Space Coast, but I love to capture content from all of my travels.

I’m proud of my work as a whole because it shines such a beautiful light on Florida and the Space Coast. Brevard County has kind of a small-town feel in many places, so it’s nice to be able to highlight its beauty and let the world know we’re here. Since starting my page I’ve had so many people reach out commenting on how beautiful it is where I live.

I think my eye and work ethic set me apart from others. I’ve always been able to spot the beauty in nature, even in the smallest forms. My work ethic pushes me through when I might feel like giving up on a shot. One thing Photography takes is patience, so without a strong willingness to stick it out, I might not get half the shots I have.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-Taking will teach you a lot about yourself. It’ll test your confidence, decision-making skills, and your mental strength. I think these are all good life lessons for anyone to learn and even more than once. I consider myself a moderate risk-taker. I like to think out my plans, but I don’t mind rolling the dice under the right circumstances. If I feel confident that I have a good chance of success or learning something I’m more likely to take the risk. But I won’t take it if the risk seems sketchy, not thought out at all, or it’s an obviously bad idea.
