Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Robinson.
Hi Carl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My Step-Father had a food trailer that he no longer used. He has been barbequing almost every Saturday off of South Orange Blossom Trail for almost 20 years. The food trailer in question had a smoker whereas he prefers a charcoal grill. When presented with the possibility of using or owning the trailer, the smoker played a big part in deciding what I would do with it. In 2016 the idea of smoking turkey legs was unshakable. Italian sausage and corn on the cob follow soon after. I thought funnel cakes, fried Oreos and pickles would complement the massive turkey legs well. Why do people really go to the fair/carnival? How often is it in town? What if I could make it available every weekend, put a chef-inspired twist on the classics while keeping it reasonably priced? I thought what if I did it my way. Carlnivals” Carnival food, Carl’s Way” was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Plenty of obstacles and challenges then and now. Finances being the biggest of them all. Funding a business out of pocket while trying to balance your day-to-day is not for the weak.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
On February 16th, 2022 I graduated from Valencia College’s Accelerated Vocational Skill Training program as a Certified Industrial Maintenance Tech. In less than four years at my current place of employment, I have grown tremendously in knowledge and capability. I’m very proud of my Son Elijah and the young man he’s grown to be. My faith in God through His Son coupled with my work ethic and take-charge attitude sets me apart.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If there is a will, there is a WAY! The roadblocks COVID created caused for greater innovation and I’m always up for a good challenge.
