Meet Atavia Bowman of Adorn Glam Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Atavia Bowman.  

Hi Atavia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Adorn Glam Shop was established in 2018 on what I call “a leap of faith.” I had the idea of selling various fashion items to help ladies elevate their style and fell in love with what I started. 

From a little girl, I always loved dressing up in fashion jewelry and my mother’s clothing and heels. I would model around the house in sunglasses that were too big and heels I could barely walk in. I had always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur; however, I did not always know what exactly I wanted to do. Due to my love for fashion and dressing up, I knew a boutique was the right path. 

When I began AGS, I had no knowledge of how to run a business. For months, I watched followed different boutique owners on social media and did research trying to get an idea of where to begin. I began to pray about what I wanted more, and God began to open doors and direct me to the right persons that played a part in the beginning of AGS. 

This boutique started from humble beginnings by making use of the space inside of my college apartment in Tallahassee, FL, and soliciting clientele through my family and friends. When I first began, I sold shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories. I was based solely on Instagram asking customers if they wanted to purchase. Majority of my clientele was based in the Bahamas, so I would send items back to The Bahamas and my friends would then make the deliveries to the customers on my behalf. 

One day a friend of mine surprised me with a website. At that time, I was not ready to pursue an online site due to fear of failing. A few months later in 2019, I was eager and ready to take my business to the next level. I spent months researching, planning, going “broke”, crying, praying, and fasting. Everything started to finally come together & AdornGlamShop.com was opened to the public June 7th, 2019. 

I was so excited to see my efforts in 2018 blossom into a full online store with clientele in America and The Bahamas. I am thankful to God, my mother, and everyone who genuinely believed in me and supported me. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Nothing worth having comes easy.” Becoming an entrepreneur was the most difficult but best thing I’ve ever done. Like everything else, it definitely has its ups and downs. From being low on funds, weeks of no sales, customer chargebacks although they received their items, sometimes depression, and feelings of wanting to give up kicked in. The best way I learned to overcome wanting to give up is by remembering why I started. 

As you know, we’re big fans of Adorn Glam Shop. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Adorn Glam Shop is an online-based boutique where our top priority is to provide quality clothing and accessories. Our collections feature a number of cute, unique, and comfortable pieces that cater to each season. We are known for our quality items, great prices, and amazing customer service. Our marketing has changed tremendously over the years which has allowed us to engage with more people resulting in new customers from around the country. I am extremely proud of Adorn Glam Shop and how much the company and I have grown. 

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
A majority of my U.S based customers do not know that I was born and raised in the Bahamas. I moved to the U.S in 2012 to pursue higher education and graduated from Florida A&M University with a degree in Criminal Justice. I’ve always had a passion for helping people, mainly children in unsafe situations. I am currently working in my field dealing with abused children and vulnerable adults. 

Another surprise is that I will be opening an Adorn Glam Shop storefront in Freeport, Bahamas in Summer 2022. This is exciting and a testament of the growth Adorn Glam Shop and I have experienced since 2018.
