Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Velasco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Velasco.

Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was in second grade, as I got older, I slowly started to learn a couple of instruments- as well as music theory. Most recently I’ve been fiddling with producing my own songs too.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not always smooth. Personal mental health has always been part of the journey but frankly makes for a good song. Sometimes it feels a little difficult to break into a new scene, coming from Tampa, figuring out the Orlando music scene has been pretty difficult. Trying to find proper venues for shows has been a recent struggle

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say that I’m most proud of my newest album, the in-between. Mental health has always been a difficult battle for me, and the creation of this album came from a really bad year. It’s very baring, in a sense, and was a little terrifying to put into the world- but I have had so many people tell me the a certain song or spoken word, has helped them process something or made them feel heard. And that has always been my number one goal with my music- for people to be able to hear it and feel it, REALLY feel it.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Lots of people don’t know that I’m actually a film HMUA! I do hair and makeup for short films, TV, and feature films. Everything from male grooming to female glam, up into special effects like scratches, gunshot wounds, and other gore
