Inspiring Conversations with Dr. TuTrinh Do of Illume Dental Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. TuTrinh Do.

Hi Dr. Do, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Dr. TuTrinh (Gin) Do and I am a first-generation Vietnamese American. I’ve known I wanted to be a dentist since I was 11 years old. However, when you’re 4’11 female minority, sometimes you’re not taken as seriously as others. I am a tenacious individual that doesn’t let obstacles stand in her way. After 15 years of determination, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida with my bachelor’s in Microbiology and Molecular Biology in 2010 and graduated with my doctorate from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2015.

I am an extrovert and a people person, who enjoys meeting and helping new people. With a keen eye for aesthetics, dentistry was a natural calling for me. I love to work with my hands and create beautiful smiles. It brings me joy to give people their confidence back in this way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey toward building my own dental studio has certainly had its fair share of obstacles. Building a business during COVID has been very challenging. Construction delays and sky-rocketing supply costs have made it a struggle to cross the finish line on time. However, I’ve realized something that was best described by Apple CEO, Tim Cook, when he said, “There is a saying that ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life’. I learned that is a total crock. You will work harder than you ever thought possible, but the tools will feel light in your hand.” This resonates with me because, while it’s been very stressful, it still feels worthwhile to build my dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Illume Dental Studio has been in the making since Summer 2021 and is set to open in early Fall 2022. After 7+ years of practicing dentistry, I felt like it was my time to build an office that would reflect my personality. I want patients to feel welcomed, relaxed, understood, and catered to. Our boutique dental office will be providing quality comprehensive oral treatment in a modern upscale space. Our aim is to elevate the patient experience by offering relaxing amenities and exceptional patient care.

At Illume, we will be providing dental services, such as cleanings, fillings, crowns, veneers, teeth whitening, and clear aligners, with the added benefit of spa-like amenities. Botox/fillers, noise-canceling headphones, massage chairs, cooling neck pillows, overhead tv’s, blankets, warm towels, heated eye masks, and aromatherapy scents are some things you can hope to enjoy. Our aim is to make sure you feel pampered while you’re in the dental chair.

What sets us apart is our attention to detail. Here at Illume, we have built the processes of the studio to center around the patient’s perspective. We have curated every aspect of the workflow, from first contact to procedure delivery to follow-up, with the patient’s comfort and ease in mind. Our objective is to change your mind about what a dental appointment should feel like.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Dentistry is going to go all digital. More offices will shift to paperless charts/ forms and there will be no more messy impressions. Impressions will be scanned onto a computer and emailed to the dental lab, so the turnaround time to get your crowns, veneers, partials, dentures, night guards, retainers, etc. will be so much quicker. Dental Labs are also starting to 3D print these restorations as well. There will be technology to make numbing patients painless. At Illume Dental Studio, we are modernizing dentistry with all these amenities right from the start. There’s a lack of luxury dental clinics; we aim to fill that space.
