Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hondel.
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been creative and, in the arts, my whole life. I started as a performer, and now I’m a freelance choreographer and social media content creator. Growing up in Orlando, I was constantly surrounded by so many opportunities that I’m so grateful for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe that nobody has it easy when it comes to reaching their goals. If it was easy, then nobody would have to work for anything. It definitely hasn’t been easy for me but the rewards have been so worth it. About seven years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I had to get surgery, and it put me out of dance for about 6 months. Not only was it psychically a challenge for me to get back into it, but also a big mental challenge. On top of that, just the competitive nature of the industry can get exhausting, but like I said before the rewards are so worth it in the end.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started dancing when I was 3 years old and the rest is history! I competed in dance and spent about 40 hours a week in the dance studio until I was 13. Then I fell in love with Musical Theatre. I would do so many shows at a time and nothing made me happier. Once I graduated High School, I moved to NYC to pursue my dreams. While I was there, I absolutely fell in love with “being on the other side of the table”. Choreography became my newest passion. I am the Associate Dance Director for the prestigious musical theater intensive, Broadway Artists Alliance and I choreograph at theaters all around the country. During the pandemic, I moved back to Orlando and started posting a lot of my own original dances on TikTok! I really strive to be a light in people’s lives and help them find joy in their lives!
