Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Ammon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I would love to! I am a native Floridian who has lived all over the State but never moved away. Florida, its environment, its diversity, and its offerings truly feed my soul. Photography and the outdoors have been my passions all because of a small brownie camera from the 1960’s. For the past 25 years, I devoted myself to a professional career protecting the environment for generations to come, yet something was missing. Even when I am off-roading in the woods, camping in the Everglades, hiking in Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, SCUBA diving offshore near Pensacola, or the Keys, crocheting something for a friend, or simply enjoying what life has to offer there was a little voice that said just do it! Most vacations, family gatherings, and sporting events everyone asked me to bring my cameras along and share the images when it was over. Quite frequently, my close friends and family bug me to launch my own company and go professional, so in October 2021 I did!
While my original passion will always be wildlife, I have fallen in love with high-action photography and capturing difficult angles in addition to portraits. Chasing a thoroughbred racing around 3 barrels in 15 seconds or less is certainly a challenge, but when you successfully capture the whites of their eyes, the muscles of the athletes, and the dirt kicking up from the arena floor your adrenaline surges. Even when you capture the moment just before a baseball lands in a mitt, you can’t help but smile ear to ear behind the lens. You can’t help but become vested in the outcomes and cheer on the achievements and cry at the losses.
To say it has been a whirlwind would be an understatement. The support I receive from clients, friends, families, organizations, clubs, businesses, and many loved ones is heartwarming. It has taken me a few months to accept photography truly is an art form. Some will be attracted to it and appreciate it, while others will not. But if you remain true to who you are, you will never go wrong.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, overall it has been very smooth. The biggest challenge I face is simply time. I currently work two full-time jobs, which includes building my business. Many sacrifices are made (mostly lack of sleep) in order to provide superior products for my clients. Both careers bring blessings to my life, and I love sharing my knowledge of the environment while capturing the action. I have been blessed with an amazing network of contacts, clients, friends, events, organizations, arenas, and business owners who I have had the honor of working with, and they spread the word. I formally advertised once, and it resulted in zero clients; lesson learned. Word of mouth, meaningful customer service, and a superior product are my best achievements to date. I focus on what I do not like from other businesses and professional relationships and avoid it with my own. I built my business around what I would want as a client and continue to perfect it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My customer service sets me apart. With everyone carrying a camera attached to their phones, you have to offer something unique. For years I have watched friends struggle with frustration and disappointment when they can’t share their special moment due to blurry images, lack of time, distractions, dead batteries, or limited budgets. My business takes care of that for everyone. In addition to sporting events, I offer Concierge Photography Services for all my clients. I capture the action and the memories allowing them to focus on their families, competitions, games, events, or simply smiling in front of me. I build packages around their needs, wants, and desires instead of charging the same flat rates making photography affordable and available to everyone. I truly get to know my clients before we work together, so their images reflect their true self. I digitally deliver a high-resolution perfected superior product every time and offer prints if desired. I will always come to you, meet your timeframe, arrive early and stay late, I don’t limit you to an hour, and won’t rush you along when we are done. Finally, if I am not happy with our session, I will reshoot it (if possible) or provide it free of charge. I am that committed. Who else would do that!
What’s next?
The world is my oyster. I want to focus more on sporting events and expand my portfolio while continuing portrait services. I truly love fast-paced action and find it a challenge to become a master of the craft. I also want to focus more on travel services involving Overlanding, extreme outdoor adventures, and State and National Parks. Something about waking up next to a stream, in the mountains, or in the desert simply refreshes your soul and grounds you back to who you truly are.
