Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaine Janira Batres.
Hi Elaine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Elaine Janira Batres, 27, a first-generation American. My roots come from El Salvador however, I was born in Florida. Raised in Palm Beach County to now residing in Orlando, FL. As far as I can remember being a little girl I’ve always loved to draw, paint, and draw with chalk. Pretty much anything that has to do with art I absolutely love till this day. All throughout school, I made sure I signed up for art class! Once my friends started seeing my creations I was becoming well known as “the artist”. It wasn’t until when I was older that I really took on the role of an artist. Around 2015/16 when I attempted to sketch something out on a Canvas to see what I can do. And let me say, I was proud of myself. I still had it. I guess you can say I’m a “natural.” I create everything with love and passion. My goal is to make the world a brighter place. In 2018, I was blessed to be introduced to a whole new level of art… Tattoos. I started to apprentice in Kissimmee area with my mentor, Nick (Legend) Garcia. Becoming a tattoo artist has taught me many new techniques with art and creations. Now in days, that’s where my focus is. I’m going on 5 years of tattooing and slowly building my art career. Making a pathway to my ultimate goal which is having my art studio as an official art therapist. “Art is to console those who are broken by life.” -Vincent Van Gogh
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had my bumps and detours along the way. Once I graduated in 2013, I pretty much continued to work. I’ve been working ever since I was 16 years young. I saw my dad work from sunrise to sunset, and go to work under that scorching sun. I have seen my mom work 3 jobs at one point. So, creating art wasn’t a priority. It was more a hobby whenever I had time. When I moved to Orlando and attended Valencia College. There I began my AA in psychology. My focus was to being my career path, so I don’t have to work as hard as my parents did. Even better, give back to them so they too can rest. My drive comes from my family. That is where most of my inspiration comes from and the motivation to create my art. When COVID sprung in 2020, like most I too had to stop for a while. I took a pause when it came to my art. On August 23, my dear beloved father, Amilcar, left this earth and finally reunited with my grandma. Our guardian angel. My 5 siblings and I are his legacies that he left behind. We are all we got! With that being said, I lifted myself out of my depression with my art. The peacefulness it brings to my heart calms my anxiety. My focus now is my art, tattoos, and my future career on becoming an art therapist. I may have had my bumps along the way that stopped me from going forth; however, I don’t give up! I’m doing this for me, for my family, and for my guardian angels!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It’s always hard to answer when I am asked what I specialize in or what is it that I do.
Well, there’s more than one answer to that! I’m a very versatile artist. You can call me old fashion because my go-to is drawing with pencil on paper. Anything I see or envision I draw it. Can’t forget about painting! Painting is where I really bring out all the colors. I make custom pieces. Also, when it comes to custom pieces of art, I create custom chalk art! The chalkboard art pieces I’ve done in the past really add to birthday decorations. There’s one 8ft tall, plywood board that was used for the main entrance. While others were used for birthday cake table decor. It’s great for any occasion! Switching it up, I really enjoy the one 1 on 1 session I have with soon-to-be mommas! At the end of it all, I enjoy seeing the smile on my client’s faces after they’ve seen what I have created for them. That to me… it’s priceless. If I had to choose just one thing, I’d say becoming a tattoo artist was definitely a big step in my art. I love what I do, and I do what I love!
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
In today’s world, the best way to find me is through social media. I’m on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok!
