Today we’d like to introduce you to Vianelis Martinez.
Hi Vianelis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have always been a crafter. I love making things. At one point in time, I wanted to start a cosmetic business making chapsticks, body lotion, and more. During this time, small businesses were not as big, so there wasn’t a lot of information to help get started So, I wasn’t very successful. Years later, I decided to try again. I started with resin pours, added T-Shirts, and eventually tumblers. Now, I offer a variety of things for any gift.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and running a business isn’t always smooth. I have ran into many issues here and there. The biggest issue is marketing. With so many people out there also starting their own small business it is difficult to get out in front. Another issue I ran into is proving to potential customers that I am reputable. There were many people starting small companies and scamming others that it has become a downfall for small business others. Potential customers not trusting us. I moved from just focusing on being online to doing pop-up events to get my name out there.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am not your average crafter. I have other jobs that I do on a day to day. I am actually a full-time Software Engineer. This is where my passion and love truly is. When I’m not creating things virtually, I am teaching others how to create things virtually. I also work as a part-time Adjunct Instructor. I stay pretty busy. I am proud of all that I do. My small business allows me to make physical items I can share. While with my day-to-day I make virtual products.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family and friends have truly been great supporters. Whenever I have an event to prepare for or orders to get done. They will come over and help me prepare whatever they can. They will keep me company at events. Just anyway they can help, they are there. The love and support is immense.
